Making a speech about sport

Teaching Aims: 1. Get students to know more about different kinds of sports by reading two articles . 2. Encourage students to make a speech about sports through group work to improve students’

reading and speaking abilities. 3. Instruct the students to learn and appreciate the spirit of sports.

Teaching Important and Difficult Points: How to lead students to make a speech about sports and the spirit of sports through cooperation.

Teaching procedures:

Step I

Lead –in and revision 1. Show a short video about sports, and have a free talk about it. 2. Show students two pictures about sports items, and ask them whether they are Olympic events or not. Step II

Reading passage one Activity1: Reading and answering

Ask one of the students to read the first part and ask two questions. Q: What requirements must be met before a sports event can be considered by the IOC? Q: Which sport is still trying to enter the Olymics? Activity2: Free talk

Q: Introduce Wushu to the IOC members.

Activity3: 3 key parts of making a speech Step III Reading passage two 1.

Ask students to read this passage as quickly as possible. Pay more attention to the teams and matches mentioned in this story. 2.

Compare the teams and have a deep understanding of this story.

Step IV Making a speech about sports ----- winning isn’t everything

2. Give some words and tips for making a speech of the topic 3. Divide the whole class into several groups and ask them to make a speech about the topic 4. Present their speech. Step V Summary Show a video about some famous sports stars and ask students to learn the spirit of each player. Step VI Homework
