Blackboard, slide show, multi-media, etc. IV、Teaching procedures Step 1. Warm-up Talk about danger and potential hazards at home. Ask if any students have had an accident at home. Talk about what to do in case of emergency. Step 2. Revision

1. Go over what the Ss learned in the last class. 2. Review vocabulary which is relevant to this context e.g. “smoke, rush, danger….”

Step 3. Teaching

1. Get the Ss to skim over the text and find out what the passage was about. 2. Listen to the text and repeat after the tape, then ask: 1) Who was the brave young man? 2) Whom did he help out of the fire? 3) How did it end?

3. Ask the Ss to read one paragraph each. Then practise questions and answers about the article to help better understanding 4. Read the text carefully again then answer the following questions: 1) What happened on 10th May?

2) Who saved Mrs. Sun? 3) Why could Mrs. Sun not get out of the kitchen?

4) Who helped put out the fire?

5) Why was Lin Tao in hospital? And how long? 6) What should we be careful with? Why? 5. Explain the useful expressions in the text (slide show) 1) see (watch /find /hear) sb. do/doing sth.

e.g. I often see them play football on the playground.

What can you hear Aileen doing now in the next room? 2) alone = by oneself

e.g. My parents were out just now. I am alone/by myself now. Nobody helped Jerry do the task. He finished it alone/by myself. 3) help sb. out (of….)

e.g. Lin Tao helped Mrs Sun out of the fire. 4) the Exclamatory sentences (if time permits)

Patterns:

What + (adj) + n + SV!

How + adj/adv + SV!

Lin Tao was a brave young man. →What a brave young man Lin Tao was! →How brave the young man was! Step 4. Homework Read the text over and again. Try to recite it.
