I Analysis of Teaching Background 1.

My understanding of this lesson: This lesson is about attributives. The purpose is to let students review various attributives, which is of great help for senior high school students to understand a long sentence, especially for those slow students. Meanwhile, this lesson will inspire the students’ sense of being kind. 2.

Analysis of the students: All of them are senior high school students, who have a basic understanding of the main members in a sentence including attributives. However, many of them are still puzzled about the attributive clause. What’s worse, some of them don’t know how to choose the correct relatives in an attributive clause. Therefore, it is of great importance for them to get a better understanding of different kinds of attributives, especially attributive clauses. II Teaching Goals: 1.

Knowledge Goals: ①

The students can fully understand the main types of attributives in a sentence ---- adjectives(形容词), nouns(名词), numerals(数词), adjectival possessive pronouns(形容词性物主代词), the possessive case of nouns(名词所有格), prepositional phrases(介词短语), infinitives(不定式), present participles(现在分词), past participles(过去分词) and attributive clauses. ② The students can better understand the way to choose the correct relatives in an attributive clause. 2.

Ability Goals: ①Train the students’ summarizing ability. ②Develop the students’ independent learning ability as well as cooperative learning ability.

Based on the New York Times bestseller, this movie “Wonder” tells an incredibly inspiring and heartwarming story of August “Auggie” Pullman, a boy with facial differences. August “Auggie” Pullman is a 10-year-old boy living in New York. He was born with a rare facial disease. Due to 27 surgeries, Auggie is taught by his mother, Isabel, at home. But as Auggie is approaching the fifth grade, Isabel and Auggie's father, Nate, decide to select a private primary school for him. X Teaching reflection Before this class, I interviewed some students with different English learning backgrounds about their opinions about attributives. Although they learned about several main kinds of

attributives including the attributive clause, most of them still have a confused idea of how to choose the relatives in an attributive clause. Even worse, they firmly believe it is very difficult and boring to have an English grammar lesson. Therefore, in this lesson I wanted to try something new to help them review various attributives in a relaxing and interesting way. The greatest change I made in my lesson was to help my students have a better understanding about the attributives by introducing the movie, Wonder, throughout this lesson and creating some tasks for them to complete. In this lesson, I adopted Task-based Learning and I tried to make the class student-centered and acted as an organizer and instructor. They did a really good job in each task, especially in the group work, where the majority of my students could play an active role. Not only have the students mastered the main types of attributives, especially how to choose the correct relatives in an attributive clause in a relaxing and interesting way but also they have developed cooperative learning as well as independent learning. Meanwhile, they have experienced a positive emotion about life. That is----kindness makes the world more beautiful. In addition, I handed out a piece of paper about the guidance learning for this lesson to each student before class, which helped a lot in my class. With the help of the guidance learning, the students found it easier to catch up with the teaching procedures. Furthermore, homework was very important for the students to consolidate what they had learned in this lesson. However, there were still some things to improve. First, a few students were not used to learning in groups so that they did not actively participate in the group discussion. Besides, a certain number of students were used to answering questions and discussing in Chinese rather than in English.

Anyway, as an English teacher, I still need some teaching wits to help those students to participate in group work and encourage them to speak English instead of Chinese in my class and I will make every effort to improve my teaching step by step.
