The Audiolingual Method, Total Physical Response Method F. Teaching Procedures: Step one: Warming Up (5mins) 1 Teacher greets children. T: Hello everyone? S: Hello, Miss Liu. 2 Teacher plays the video and students sing the song together. T: Let’s sing the ABC’s song together, Ok?

S: Ok! ABCD…

T: You guys do a very good job! Step two: Presentation (10mins) 1.

Teacher introduces herself by using the two different sentence patterns “Hello, I’m…” and “Hi, my name is …”and invites some students to introduce themselves. T: Hi, I’m Cynthia.

S1: Hi, I’m….

S2: Hello, my name is…

S3: Hi, my name is…

S4; Hello, I’m…

……

Teacher invites some students to wear different characters’ masks and lets students introduces themselves according to the characters’ masks.

S1: Hello, I’m Sarah.

S2: Hi, my name is Mike ……

Teacher shows students a big bag and lets them guess the things in it. T：Look, it’s a ….

S: A ruler. T: Good! What’s this?

S: A pencil. T: Good job! How about this one? S: An eraser. T: Well done! The last one is…

S: A crayon. T: Very good! One hundred scores! 4.

Teacher makes a sentence as an example first. Then teacher chooses some students to use their own stationaries to make sentence too. T: I have a ruler. (with a ruler in the hand) S1: I have an eraser. (with an eraser in the hand) S2: I have a crayon. (with a crayon in the hand) S3: I have a pencil. (with a pencil in the hand)

Teacher shows students her stationaries while she is saying the sentences and if students have the same thing, they should say “Me too.”

T: I have an eraser. (Show them an eraser)

S: Me too. (Students show teacher erasers too)

Step three: Consolidate (15mins) 1.

Teacher shows the picture of “part B let’s learn”. T: Who is he? S: Zoom. T: Zoom is in a hurry and he want to go to school in time. A lot of things drop out from his bag. (Teacher should do the same actions while saying the words.) 2.

Teacher shows the word “bag” in the PPT and let students guess the meaning. Teacher could do the action that she is carrying a bag to help them to guess. 3.

Teacher reads the word “bag” and students read after it. The word will be read for three times. T: Bag, bag, bag , B-A-G, bag. S: (red after it) 4.

Teacher plays the “Blow the balloon” with students.

T: Let’s read the word bag together. The louder you read, the bigger the balloon will be. And finally it will become exploded. 5.

Teacher writers the words on the blackboard letter by letter. T: Please look at the blackboard and I’ll write the words and show me your finger and write the word with me. (the following three words, pen, pencil-box and book will be taught as the same ways)

Game Time 1). Call my name:

T: OK, class, let’s play a game. I’ll make you guys into four groups. One, two, three and four. Each of the group will have a name of stationaries. For example, when I say pen, the pen group should stand up and say your group name again, Understand? S: Yes. T: ok, let’s have a try, pen! 2). Teacher divides the class into four groups. Teacher will show each group a picture, and the first of the group number should say it in Chinese, and the next one say it in English, Chinese, English, and so on and finds which group finish it fastest. Step four: practice (7mins) 1.

Teacher plays the video about page 8, part B, let’s do.

T: I’ll show you guys a video. In the first time, let’s just listen to it.

T: Ok, it’s finished and let’s try to read it with the video again in the second time.

T: Good job! 2.

Teacher teaches the sentences by showing students the actions and lets them guess. 3.

Teacher says the sentences and lets students do the relevant actions. 4.

Teacher does the actions and lets students say the sentences. 5.

Teacher plays the video again. And in this time, teacher lets students stand up, say and do the actions. Step five: Homework and summary (4mins) 1.

Today, we have learn four words and four sentences. 2.

Homework: Recite the four words and the sentence patterns and peview the page 11 in the book. G.
