Teaching procedures:

Step 1

Lead in The teacher starts the lesson by asking some questions to students related to The Olympic Games: 1.

How much do you know about Olympic Games? 2.

How often were Olympic Games held? 3.

What do the five rings mean? 【设计说明】询问学生有关奥运会的几点常识，为学生阅读课文做好铺垫。

Step 2

Pre-reading 1.

Have students read reading strategies quickly and ask students some questions to help them know how to read a speech. (1)What is a speech? (2) If we want to keep interested all the time, what should we do? 【设计说明】在读前阶段，设计两个与阅读技巧相关的问题，让学生通过这两个问题快速了解文章的阅读技巧。

Step 3

While-reading

Activity1: Ask students to read the passage and divide this passage into four parts and find the main ideal of each part. Match each part with

Ask students to read the passage again and check the errors .

(1). According to the speech, the speaker is an athlete. (2). The first ancient Olympic Games were held in AD776. (3). Everyone was allowed to take part in the ancient Olympics. (4). The contemporary Olympic Games were first held in Rome in 1896. (5). At the 2008 Beijing Olympics, the Chinese women’s badminton team won the gold medal for the first time in history. (6). Zhang Ning was in her late thirties when she competed in the 2008 Olympic Games. 【设计说明】读中阶段，在任务型教学法指导下，重点关注学生寻找信息解决问题的过程。而通过找中心句、抓关键词、找重复词等方法，掌握文章细节。

Post-reading Ask students to find a partner and then perform a play together, which have to be related to the Olympic Games. 【设计说明】通过让学生扮演奥运会上的运动员，引导学生去理解奥运会的精神。

Conclusion
