A teaching plan for Unit 3 Using Language II Reading- Alexander Graham Bell by Yuan Wenting Wuzhou NO.8 High School Objectives In this lesson, students are required to: 1. learn the inventor of the first telephone; 2. practice reading for information; 3. acquire some useful expressions and sentence structures.

Procedures Step 1. Pre-reading Task 1. Ask the students for their methods of contacting with people.

Task 2. Ask the students who first invented the telephone. Both of the tasks above are expected to arouse students’ interests in today’s topic.

Step 2. While-reading Task 1. Skimming Students need to read each paragraph quickly to get the topic of each paragraph, do the matching exercise and try to get the main

idea of the passage.

Task 2. Scanning Students need to look for some details of Bell’s profiles to know more about this great inventor.

Task 3. Detail reading In this part, Students are required to do reading again more closely this time to finish True or False and Reading Comprehension exercises.

Teacher need to remind the students some reading technique before they start this part. If a few of them have difficulties, they can discuss with the people around them.

Step 3. Post-reading In this part, students will learn the key and useful phrases and sentence structures. To enhance their understanding the usage of the phrases and structures, more exercises are given alongside.

Step 4. Homework Translate the Chinese into English as requested.
