A Teaching Plan for Students’ Book8 Unit5 Meeting Your Ancestors Using Language II

Teaching environment: Time: 5/29/2018 Students: from Senior Two Content: Students’ Book8 Unit5 Using Language II Speaking & Writing Teacher: Zheng Shan Teaching objectives：

1. Language ability: During the class, the students will: a. Practice their descriptive skills with the words and expressions learned. b. Write a short passage to introduce objects with the notes taken during discussion. 2. Cultural awareness: a. Students will learn some information about the Sanxingdui Ruins and be willing to know more about archaeology. b. Students will become aware of the importance of archaeological relics. 3. Thinking quality: Students will improve their archaeological skills of speculation. 4. Learning ability： During the class, students will be encouraged to take an active part in the class activities, cooperate with classmates and seize all kinds of the chances to learn and perform. Teaching key and difficult points: 1. How to help the students to carry on their discussion with the given information. 2. How to instruct the students to present the knowledge they’ve learned by correct language.

Teaching procedures:

Step I Lead-in 1. Talk about the famous TV program “National Treasure” and lead to the definition of archaeology. 2. Introduce the Sanxingdui Museum to the students and lead them to the pictures of the four objects in the students’ book(page 44) and introduce some background knowledge to the students. Step II Speaking 1. Pair work: students talk about the four objects and fill in the chart.

2. Presentation: give a brief introduction of each of the objects to the class. 3. Free discussion: watch a video about the bronze tree and find the answers to the following questions: a. What was it used for? b. What can we learn from it about the people who lived then? Step III Project 1. Students look at the model on the bronze tree and get to know what should be included in a description.

2. Ask the students to work in groups and design a page for one of the other three objects for the guidebook of the Sanxingdui Museum. 3. Choose students from several groups to present their designs to the class. 4. Summary: since the archaeological relics can tell us so much about the ancient people and their life then, it’s important to protect these treasures! Step IV Writing Task Individual work: Suppose you have been invited to be a “National Treasure Keeper”

by the grogram in CCTV. Write a speech draft to introduce one of the objects to the audience and arouse people’s awareness of protecting archaeological relics. Blackboard-design:
