Teaching process

Lesson type writing

Help students learn how to describe a place in different aspects and grasp the useful expressions. How to get students make use of the sentence patterns and write a beautiful composition with different sentence patterns.

Teaching procedures and ways 

Step 1. Revision and lead-in 

Ask students to look at the picture of the United Kingdom and fill in the blanks according to the short passage in the PPT to revise the text and use a brainstorm to pave the way to write a composition of how to describe a place. 

Step 2. Writing 

Task 1. Ask students to think about how to arrange a passage to describe a place. 

Task 2. Get students to summarize the sentence patterns according to the example sentences and practise after that. 

Task 3. Writing practice: (1)

Let students translate the sentences individually and do the pair work to correct mistakes of each other. (2)

Ask some students to show their work on the blackboard and others to correct their mistakes.

Get students to try to connect the sentences to make a composition using some conjunctions and other syntactic structures.



Task 4. Sample passage: Ask students to read the sample passage and feel the beautiful sentences of it and think about what kind of grammar they didn’t use.
