Period 3 A sample lesson plan for Using Language (THE FEAST: 18,000 BC) Introduction Language is learned to be used in and for communication. So in this period we shall help students read the passage THE FEAST: 18,000 BC，making use of the focused words, expressions, structures and topic ideas covered in this unit.

Objectives 1.Learn the life style of Beijing people. 2.Learn some skills of describing an imaginary story. 3.Learn some important language points. Procedures 1.

Leading in by some pictures. What are they doing ? What objects are used by the primitive people? What did they use fire for? Look at some pictures of Beijing people's life （Discovering where your ancestor lived can be a useful way of helping you trace your family tree back further. Census records, electoral registers, poll books, trades directories and rate books can all provide a further snapshot into the world of your ancestors. Now in groups of four tell about where your ancestors live.）

（四）Language points 1.If only it could be just like last year. 要是能像去年那样就好了。

if only “要是……就好了”

（1）若表示与将来事实相反的情况，句中的谓语动词用would/could+do。

(2) 若表示与现在事实相反的情况，句中的谓语动词则用动词的过去式。

（3）若表示与过去事实相反的情况，句中的谓语动词则用had done。

(1)having done 是V-ing形式的完成时态，强调在主句的谓语动词之前已发生，已完成的动作。

Having finished his work,he went to the cinema with Mary. 干完活之后，他和玛丽一起去看电影。

(2)accelerate vt./vi.加速，加快（=speed up )

(3)lie in wait for 埋伏等待；伏击；准备出其不意地恐吓或袭击。

The robbers were lying in wait for the rich travellers. 强盗埋伏着等待有钱的旅客。

4.She had almost reached her destination when a delicious smell arrested her progress and she stopped.快到目的地的时候，一阵香气扑鼻，她不往前走了，停了下来。

arrest n. 逮捕；拘留

vt. 逮捕；吸引

arrest sb. for 因……而逮捕某人get arrested 遭逮捕
