一、Teaching aims: 1. Enjoy three poems about pets. 2. Talk about your favourite pets. 3. Learn how to write an English poem. 二、New words, phrases and important sentences: New words: catch, wide, hunt, hide, build, camp, stick, bite, fight, end, trouble, anywhere, middle, edge, drawer, empty, fit, care, chase, bubble, hutch, window ledge, cardboard, frock, rhyme New phrases: the cleverest animal of all, catch a ball, with eyes open wide, do wonderful tricks, very best friend, until the end, have to do sth., feed sb., top of piano, on the edge, open drawer, empty shoe, in the cupboard, a rabbit hutch New sentences: He’d never bark or bite.

She isn’t any trouble.

They don’t care.

Anybody’s lap will do. 三、Teaching tools:

A computer, an electrical white-board, some pictures about pets. 四、Teaching steps: Step 1. Revision Ask Ss to make up a dialogue about their pets. Give them a model: A: Which is your favourite pet? B: I like … best. A: Why? B: Because …

Call 2 or 3 Ss to act out their dialogues. Step 2. Leading 1. Show a flash to the students, ask: How many animals can you see in the flash? (Eight.)

2.Say to SS: Yesterday you told me about your favourite pets. Do you know what a poem is? Look at the picture. This is a poet named Li Bai. Here is a Chinese poem written by him. You can find something interesting. The last words of most sentences make the similar sound. We say that These words rhyme with each other (Write “rhyme”

on the screen.).

Step 3. Presentation 1.

Show a picture of some dogs. Say: People all like dogs. They are helpful to people. I like to keep a dog. I hope to play with him. Do you know what they often do? (Show some pictures about what dogs often do)

Teach some words: chase, catch, bark, bite, hunt, hide, fight, camp, stick, … by using the pictures. 3.

Say: “Dogs can do many things. They can do wonderful tricks. They

like to chase things. They help hunters hunt in the wild. They can hide themselves when in danger. When we are outside, they can help us build camps out of sticks. They are lovely and clever. I hope to look after him until the end.” Read the new words and phrases together. Step 4. Practice 1.

Say: Here is a poem about a dog. Please listen to the tape and answer the question: Does the dog like to fight? Play the tape. Then check the answer. 2.

Read the poem together and close the books. Fill in the blanks to complete the poem. 3.

Find which words rhyme in the poem and call Ss to underline it on the screen. Step 5.

Presentation 1.

Sometime I think dogs are too noisy. I want to keep a quiet pet. The pet doesn’t bark or fight. That’s a goldfish. She often swims in the tank. She doesn’t

eat much. She doesn’t need a hutch. She doesn’t need a bed. She is not any trouble. She just bubbles. 2.

Teach the new words: goldfish, bubble. Read them together. Step 6. Practice 1.

Ask: What does a goldfish often do?(She often bubbles) Let Ss read the poem about a goldfish after the tape. 2.

Let Ss read the poem again and fill in the blanks with the words given. Try to find the words that rhyme with each other. Step 7. Presentation 1.

Goldfish is a kind of fish. Another pet likes to eat fish very much. They also like to catch mice. What is it? (A cat)

Say: We know cats catch mice at night. They usually sleep in the day. Where do they often sleep?

Introduce the places they sleep. Show some pictures to Ss and teach the new words and phrases.

4.

Play the tape for the Ss to listen and read. Read the poem together.

5.

Find which words rhyme in this poem and match them with each other. Step 8. Group work 1.

Show Ss a new poem: Mr. Pig. Ask Ss to think of the right word to fill in the blanks and complete the poem. 2.

Choose a kind of pet and try to make a poem about the pet. Give Ss some useful information on the paper to help them finish the task. 3.

Each group says out their own poem to the class. 4.

Have a short discussion for each group to choose the best group and vote for the group. Step 9. Conclusion Pets are people’s friends. We should take care of them and protect them.

We should love the animals because Saving animals is saving ourselves. Step 10. Homework 1. Recite the poem: Cats. 2. Finish the exercises left on the paper. 3. Write a poem about your favourite pet..
