Teaching procedures:

Step 1

Lead-in 1.

Start the lesson with a short video about the Beijing Olympics opening ceremony as well as a series of pictures taken in the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics. 2.

Have a competition about Olympics. Step 2

Reading strategy Show the definition of a speech and ways to make a good speech. Step 3

Fast reading 1.

Raise three questions from the reading passage,have students listen to the tape carefully ,ask students to find out the answers directly. 2.

Divide the text into four parts and finish the main idea. Step 5

Detailed reading 1.

Have students read the passage again and get detailed information about the passage. 2.

Have students finish exercise C2 on page 24. Step 6

Topic discussion Show students a topic related to the Olympics, ask them to discuss in groups to share their ideas. Step 7

Homework Have students finish exercise E on Page25.
