Lesson 8 The weather in the UK

Analysis of the teaching materials :

1. This lesson is the reading part of Lesson 8 Who are you going to play ? Book 8 of the Primary English. 2. This lesson is about the weather in the UK, It requires the students to master the new words and phrases,such as hour ,later, cloud, clear, shine,raincoat,etc... 3. The most important is not only to guide students how to read , but also to develop their reading methods ,skills , and their reading habits.

4. This story is a little difficult and not very interesting . So I try to create more language environment to let students to try to think ,and do in English in the help of the real situation . Analysis of the students: The student of Grade 6 have already have a base in reading ability. I create real contexts to let students fell, understand and use the language .I try to promote students’reading skills through listening , self-reading ,following, scanning and careful reading .At last , I try to make language output easily . Teaching emphasis and difficulties: Emphasis: 1.

Develop students’abilities of getting and dealing with information. Enable students to use the words and phrases ,such as hour ,later, cloud, clear, shine,raincoat,an hour later , laugh at ,etc... in real situation. Difficulties: 1.

Talk about the weather in different countries to output the key contents that we have learned in this class. Teaching aims: Knowledge aims: 1.

Enable the students to master the words and phrases: hour ,later, cloud, clear, shine,raincoat,an hour later , laugh at ,etc... 2.

Enable the students to read and understand the whole passage , and to make the short conversation . Ability aims: 1.

Develop students’basic ability of listening ,speaking ,reading and writing. 2.

Stimulate students’ language creation ability and then finish the task-based activities. 3.

Cultivate the students’right attitude to communicate with others: They can help and learn from each other . Emotion aims: 1.

Be able to communicate in English is a great source of happiness. 2.

Help students to realize that different weather in different countries, and different countries make this colorful world . Teaching aids: Book 8 ; some pictures .

Teaching procedures: pre-reading Step1:1. Greeting and sing a song :London Bridge is Falling Down .

How are you? I’m fine. First, Let’s sing a song. OK? ) Step2:Show some pictures about the famous buildings in the UK ,and draw a London Eye to lead in today’s topic. [Methods and purpose : By singing, presenting pictures and drawing the London eye, students will know today's topic soon] While reading : Step1: st1. Listen the 1 paragraph of the passage.

2. Answer the simple questions: What do the people often talk about in the UK ? They are often talk about the weather. Why ? Because the weather there often changes quickly. How fast does the weather change ? They can have four seasons in one day . 3. Read after the tape .Read accurately. 4. Retell paragraph 1.

[Methods and purpose : Through first listening ,they can get main idea of the reading contents. Use the simple questions to summarize the main points of the text. Try to develop the students’ ability of capture the key information quickly.]

Step2: Learn the 2nd paragraph. 1.

Listen to the part 2 and answer the questions . What does the weather like in one day in the UK ? S1: In the morning ... S2: An hour later... S3: In the afternoon ... S4: Then evening comes ... 2.

Answer the question ,meanwhile, learn the words and phrases: an hour later, clouds, clear, shine... 3.

Guide students to Read : link together and accord to the group of the meaning to pause . 4.

Students try to read after the tape one sentence by one sentence. I should pay attention to the pronunciation of the students and teach them try to imitate . 5.

Look at the blackboard and try to retell this part. [Methods and purpose : Read with the questions .This method can develop the students’ ability of capture the key information quickly. The answers cover the key contents of this part. I create a real context to let the students know the weather in the UK . Guide students to read , and let the students master

some reading skills.] Step3: Learn the 3rd paragraph. 1.Listen to the part 3 and read in a low voice .Then answer the question. What else can you see in the UK ? S1: I can see some people going out with an umbrella on a sunny morning. Why do they take an umbrella on a sunny morning ? S2: Because if they don’t take an umbrella or a raincoat ,they may get wet in the rain later in the day. Should we laugh at them ? S3: No , we should not laugh at them. 2.Answer the question ,meanwhile, learn the words and phrases: raincoat, laugh at, wet. 3.Read after the tape, then try to retell Part 3 [Methods and purpose : Paragraph 3 is easy. By the learning of Part 2 , students had the ability to get the key information quickly. So they can retell this paragraph easily.]

Post-reading : Step 1:Consolidation and practice. 1.

Read the whole passage after the tape . 2.

Read the whole passage according the mind map on the blackboard. 3.

Sing a self-composed song about the passage . [Methods and purpose : Through retell the story ,consolidate the main idea and the key points,

Sing a self-composed song, let the students remember the text quickly, and make the students fell very happy.]

Step 2:Watch a short movie about Luoyang. [Methods and purpose : The video is introduce the weather in Luoyang. Try to let students speak more about what they have seen from the video. ] 1.Let’s make a short conversation about the weather in Luoyang T:Which city is it ? S: It’s Luoyang . T:Does the weather in spring change quickly ? S:Yes, it does. T:What’s the weather like in Spring in Luoyang ? S:It’s … . T:When you go to there, what can you see ? S:I can see ... T:What can you do ? S:I can ... T:What should you wear ? S:I should wear ... T:The weather in spring in Luoyang often changes quickly, you should care about the Weather Forecast. If not ,you may catch a bad cold. [Methods and purpose : Teachers and students are talking together, which can help them use the key contents of this lesson. ]

2.Group work: Look at the pictures and make a short conversation about the different weather in a country which you are interested in. Please do it with your partners. [Methods and purpose : It’s a little bit difficult for students to make a conversation about the weather in different country .So I gives the key sentences

and words to help them .

Encourage students in time .Tell them to work with your group members ,no matter your conversation is good or bad .Just do it .]

3.Share your short conversation . [Methods and purpose : Encourage students in time ,no matter their conversation is good or bad .So as to strengthen their confidence and accomplishment .]

Step 3: Homework 1.

You can talk about the weather in different country with your parents. 2.

You can write a short passage about the weather in a country which you are interested in. [Methods and purpose :Share your study achievement with your parents .

Use the knowledge you have learned to practice your writing.]

Blackboard Design :

Teaching reflection: We know that reading is very important for learning English in primary school.

By reading, pupils can learn the language more quickly. In this lesson, I give students proper guidance during the reading process, that can explore their potential abilities and use their imagination in reading .

During the class, I give different questions in each paragraph that can help students to expand their thinking and improve their reading quality.

After the students have mastered the knowledge, I ask students to talk about the weather in the different countries which they are interested in.

This method allows students to express different opinions in their own language. Such

discussions not only can activate the atmosphere of the classroom, but also can improve students' reading ability. As an English teacher, our mission is: "Teach students how to learn English." rather than "Teach students English."

Students are the masters of learning. So we should teach students the methods and skills to read. I hope the students can read happily in the interesting atmosphere.
