I.

Teaching content.

This is the first period of Unit 3. In this period, students are expected to know English humor, from which students will learn different types of humor as well as some typical representatives of each type. They will also learn about the Master of Humour----Charlie Chaplin. Besides, students will learn how to write a joke and they will be encouraged to make up their own jokes. Finally, students should be able to talk about which part of a joke makes them laugh and discuss the importance of humour. Students will be inspired to be optimistic toward difficulties.

II.

Teaching aims. 1.

Knowledge aim: Enable students to learn different types of humour and get some

information about Charlie Chaplin.

2.Ability aim:

Enable students to make up their own jokes. 2.

Emotional aim. Enable students to be optimistic to difficulties. III.

Teaching important points and difficult points.

1. How to help students understand and enjoy different types of

humor. 2. How to help students how to write a joke. 3. How to lead students to talk about something with their partners. IV. Teaching method. 1.

Task-based learning. 2.

Discussion. 3.

Individual, pair and group work. V. Teaching procedures. Step 1: Greetings and lead-in. Greet students as usual. Ask students to look at the title of this unit. Then show them a video and ask how they feel about it. Step 2: Warming up.

Ask two groups of students to act two dialogues and ask students which sentence makes them laugh so as to elicit the definition of

“punchline.” And students will be given two jokes and will be asked to find out the punchilines of each joke. Step 3: Introduction.

Let students look at the picture of Charlie Chaplin. Ask what they know about him and his films. And give some information of him as well as enjoy one of his works. Later, students will have a discussion about his film and discuss which part makes them laugh and why.

Students will be shown different types of humour and they will

enjoy a piece of video and be encouraged to talk about which part they think is funny with their partners. Step 4 Writing

Students will be encouraged to write their own jokes by some given procedures. Step 5: Conclusion

At the end of this lesson, students will summarize the importance of humour and they will be encouraged to be optimistic to difficulties and try to be positive people. VI: Homework 1. Search more information about Charlie Chaplin and his works. 2. Preview the reading text. 3. Share your joke with your classmates after class. VII. Blackboard design.
