It is a long process to enter a sport into the Olympics. Before a sport can be considered by the International Olympic Committee, many reqirements
should be met. Firstly, a sport must have its own international association. Secondly ,it must be practised by men in at least 75 countries on at least four continents,or practised by women in at least 40 countries and on three continents. Besides, a current sport must be dropped to help the IOC keep the Olympics' budget under control. During the development of the Olympics, some sports ,such as tae kwon do were added. However ,some other less popular sports such as baseball
and power boating were removed and
had to make way for new, more popular sports. Wushu is still applying to get into the Olympics. We hope that some day Wushu will be included in the Olympics.
Step 6
Homework 1
Finish B1 and B2 on Page 99 of the Workbook. 2 Prepare a speech entitled
‘Entering Wushu into the Olympics’.
