Analysis of teaching material:

The topic of this unit “Amazing things” can arouse the students’ interest and inspire students to think about the amazing things around us. The welcome part helps students get some basic knowledge about amazing things around us and encourages students to talk about what amazing things they have met in their daily life. Analysis of students:

Most students are interested in this topic. They have already learnt some words and expressions about amazing things in primary school, so it’s not difficult for them to talk about them. In this class, students are required to learn more about amazing things around us. Teaching objectives:

1. Talk about something amazing to know the main topic of this unit.

2. Use adjectives to express one’s own feelings and opinions.

3. Be interested in something amazing around them and have an active attitude to life. Important points:

1. The students can use adjectives to express one’s own feelings and opinions.

2. The students can grasp the usage of “with” used as adverbial and the difference between “stop doing” and “stop to do”.

3. How to describe something amazing. Difficult points:

To learn some basic expressions to talk about some unusual phenomenon and events.

Teaching procedures Step 1 Lead-in 1.

Watch some pictures of amazing things. T:

What’re the flowers like?

S: They are like monkeys’ faces. T: What can the dog do?

S: It can clean the floors. T: How many basketballs can the boy play? S: Twenty five. 2.

Enjoy a video about cats to understand the word of “amazing”.

Step 2 Presentation 1.

Tell the Students that our world is full of amazing things and write the new word “amazing” on the Bb.

Make students watch the video and tell the amazing things which Doraemon has.

He has the Memory bread and Anywhere door.

T: What can Doraemon use them to do?

S: He can use them to remember everything that he eats on the bread and he can go anywhere if he wants.

Step3 Listen and read 1. Listen to the tape and answer the questions.

Question 1: What do they see in fact?

Question 2: Why does Eddie think it is a UFO? 2. Read the dialogue after the tape. Pay attention to the tips.

Tips:

a. We drop our tone at the end of a statement. b. We often stress important words. 【设计意图：听读文章加深对文章的理解,注意朗读文章时对学生语调和重音的策略指导。】

Step4Practise

What does “Come on” mean in this sentence? Does it have other meanings?

For example: Come on! Don’t cry like a child. 2. Work in pairs, one as Hobo and the other as Eddie. You can use your own words if possible. 3. Retell the dialogue. T: Now let’s review the story and fill in the blanks to complete the passage.

It’s night. Eddie and Hobo are looking at the sky. Eddie thinks it is a ______, because it has ________ lights and it is so _______. But Hobo thinks it’s just a ________, because he ______ one plane __________.

Step 4 Presentation

1. The world is wonderful and colorful because it is full of amazing things. Look at the pictures one by one and present the new words and phrases at the same time. Fun fact 1：

Step 6 Sharing and showing 1. Look at the pictures and tell the feelings about describing the pictures.

(1)The pig thinks it’s a dog.

(2)The old man made the chair out of a living(活的) tree.

(3)The cat looks like a pirate(海盗).

(4)The baby is the same size as an egg.

2. Play the tape about Part B and say to Ss: Kitty and Amy are talking about the fun facts in Part A. Listen to their conversation and tell me which pictures they’re talking about and what they think of the facts. 3. Play the tape again and let students read after the teacher. 4. Talk about the pictures in Part A in pairs. You can use Kitty and Amy’s dialogue as

a model.
