I. Analysis of the teaching material:

Reading, as the main body of the whole unit, serves as the important resource of language input. The passage is about the school life of Millie, which is very closely related to their own school life, so it can easily arouse students’ learning interest. II. Analysis of Target Learners Grade 7students are quick in thinking and curious for exploration，so a variety of tasks should be designed to activate students’ learning desire and exploration spirit. Before the class, students will be divided into 4 teams to prepare for group activities and team competition. During the class, various activities such as pair work, group discussion and team competition can be adopted to develop their awareness of cooperation and competition. III. Teaching Objectives:

By the end of the lesson, students will be to achieve the following objectives: 1. Knowledge objective: Memorize the new words and expressions such as on fire,smoke,burn,hurt... 2. Ability objective: Apply the leaned knowledge to talk about their abilities. 3. Emotional objective: learn how to do with fire and how to protect yourself. IV. Teaching Focus and Difficulty:

Teaching Focus: words & expressions about fire. Teaching Difficulty:the way to protect yourself when there is a fire. V. Teaching Methods:

the Task-based Language Teaching Method, the Natural Top-down and bottom-up reading strategy. VI. Teaching Aids: multimedia computer, the blackboard and some chalk. VII. Teaching procedures Step1 Lead-in

Look at a picture and free talk(2-3minutes) Before the class I will ask the students to look at a picture about fire. T: Boys and girls, let’s look at a picture,what is it? T: Do you know something about fire? T: So today we are going to talk about our school lives . (Purpose: Arouse the students’ curiosity of this lesson and create a kind of lively atmosphere and circumstances so as to contribute to their language acquisition.) Step2 Pre-reading (3-5mins) 1.

Lead out the new words to prepare for the reading part

If there is a fire, what should we do? (Purpose: This step is used to lead out the new words in order to pave the way for understanding of the text.) Step 3 While reading Task 1 Fast-reading (2-3mins):

1. Who’s the brave young man?

He is Lin Tao 2. Why we say he is a brave young man?

Because he saved his neighbour from fire. (Purpose: Get the general idea of the passage and arouse Ss’ interestes about the article.) Task 2 Careful-reading (3-5mins) Read and answer some more questions 1. When did the fire happened?

2. How old was Mrs Sun?

3. Why couldn’t Mrs Sun run out by herself?

4.How long was the young man in hospital? (Purpose: Students can have a basic understanding about what happened in Lin Tao. Here, Ss can check in pairs. ) Task 3 Further reading (5-6mins) Read more carefully and judge whether the following statements are T or F.

(Purpose: This task is to train the students’ ability to find detailed information and help them to have a better understanding of the reading material. During this task, Ss can discuss in groups to check their answers, and I will walk in to them, ready to offer help when necessary. Then I’ll choose two students from each group to give their answers. If both are right, they will win a star for their team as reward. ) Step 4 Post reading Some texts (Purpose: The texts can help consolidate the content of the text and prepare for the production part.) Step 5 Extension Group work: If you see someone trapped in a fire, what will you do? (3mins) Work with group members and make a report. (Purpose: Create a real-life situation for students to put out their language so as to develop their communicative competence as well as their awareness of cooperation and competition.)
