Teaching objectives: At the end of the class, students are expected to

master the following language points: New words: panda, zoo, tiger, elephant, koala, lion, giraffe, animal, cute, lazy, smart, beautiful, scary, kind of, Australia, South Africa. Sentence patterns:

Ability objects: 1)

The students will be able to talk about some kinds of animals and describe them. 2)

The students will be able to imitate and practice after the teacher sets an example. Moral objects: The students will know animals are our friends and they are supposed to love and protect them. Teaching key points: 1.

The new words and expressions in this period. 2.

Practice speaking and listening skills. Teaching difficulty: It is difficult for some students to use proper expressions and different sentence structures to talk about animals. Teaching Procedures: Step 1 Lead-in and presentation 1. Lead-in: Use some photos to engage students in the topic of animals and teach some new words (zoo, elephant, animal). 2.

Presentation(brainstorming):

T: Tigers and lions are animals. What other animals do you know? Brainstorm the names of animals students have already known and learn the new words of animals (koala, panda, giraffe). 3. Do a game and activity 1a to consolidate the new words. Step2: Listening 1.

Pre-listening:

Lead student to focus on the given picture in the textbook.

Where are the two students? What is this picture? 2.

While-listening: For the first listening: listen and check the animals you hear in 1a. For the second listening: Listen again and answer questions.

After-listening: Follow the tape and imitate the intonation. Question: Attention to the words in listening material “cute, beautiful and interesting”. They are all description words. Can you think of other description words to describe animals?

Step3: Pair-work (1c) 1. before talking

Guess: what’s my favorite animal? Lead students to focus on very/really and kind of.

2. Talk about the animals students like and dislike. I like ____ because they’re very/kind of______.

But I don’t like ____ because they’re_____.

3. Let’s talk Step4: Where are animals from? T: Now we see there are many animals in the zoo, but do you know where their homes are. Different kinds of animals are from different places. There are many places in the world: Australia, South Australia…

Show the map of world and ask:

--Where are pandas from? -- They are from China.

Then talk about where other animals from. Step5: 2a&2b

T: Julie and John are also talking about animals and where they are from. Let’s listen and write the animals you hear. And draw a line from the animals to the description words and the countries they are from. Listen and do 2a and 2b. Step6: Survey: What is your favorite animal?

Ask and answer in groups. Then make a report. Step7: Homework 1. Ask for your parents’ favorite animals and why they like them. 2. Listen and follow the tape of 1b & 2a.
