Analysis of the teaching materials 教学内容分析

This passage adopts a dialogue between Pausanias who lived 2000 years ago and a Chinese girl in modern world. Through their dialogue, the differences and similarities between the ancient and modern Olympic Games are made known to the readers. Just because it is in a conversational style, there are quite a few oral spoken English and elliptical phrases. It is also a task helping students practice understanding and using dialogues. 二．Teaching aims and demands 1．

Step 1. Greeting. Step 2. Warming up First, let students read the theme together and lead them to know the tasks of this class.

Then leave them half minute to interview each other about their feelings about the Olympic Games, especially the 29th Olympic Games in Beijing and the 30th Olympic Games in London.

Read the title, the pictures and the first paragraph and answer: • who does P stands for? • who does L stand for?

Scanning

Scan the passage and collect all the questions that Pausanias raised to get the general idea of the passage.

Now read the text quickly. Then talk about the similarities and differences between the ancient and modern Olympics.
