Title 标题: What is difference between emphatic sentence and appositive clause guided by ‘that’?

怎样区别that引导的强调句和同位语从句？

Step 1 For example 1.

It is a fact that we will disappear without taking anything. 2.

It was doctors that saved many people’s lives.

Step 2 Difference Ways: Emphatic sentence: Remove ‘It is/was and that’, the rest of the sentence is complete. (去掉It is/was 和that,整个句子是完整的, 就是强调句)。

Appositive clause: Remove ‘It is/was and that’,

the rest of the part is not a complete sentence. (去掉It is/was 和that,剩下的不是一个完整的句子, 就是同位语从句)。

备注：剩下一个名词和一个句子，这个句子的作用是来进一步解释这个名词内容的。

Step 3 Practice 1.

It is a fact that we will disappear without taking anything. 2.

It was doctors that saved many people’s lives.

1. a fact, we will disappear without taking anything.不能组成一个句子, 句子是来解释名词内容的, 翻译成：事实是我们走的时候什么都带不走。

2. doctors, saved many people’s lives

这是一个完整的句子：Doctors saved many people’s lives.

Step 4 Conclusion 1.

It is a fact that we will disappear without taking anything. 2.

It was doctors that saved many people’s lives.

第一个句子是同位语从句，

第二个句子是强调句。

Step 5 Exercises 1.

It is our mother that gives us life. 2.

It is the word that we will take seven days off from tomorrow on.

第一个句子是强调句，完整的句子是：

Our mother gives us life.

第二个句子是同位语从句，word 就相当于news, 翻译成汉语是：消息是从明天开始我们要休息七天。

Step 6 Summary 怎样区别that引导的强调句和同位语从句，就是要把It is/was和that去掉，看是不是一个完整的句子，如果是就是强调句，如果不是，而剩下一个名词和一个句子，那么这个句子就是来解释名词内容的，它就是同位语从句。
