Unit 6. I’m watching TV.

Section B. 2b Textbook analysis: This section is selected from Go for it section B, unit 6, volume 2, Grade 7. The content has the following features : 1.

It not only helps students learn English language knowledge , but also helps them develop their language skills so that they can express theirs and communicate with others in English . 2.

It takes full account of students’

actual life and learning interests ,and the content and activities of textbooks are closely related to students’

real life and learning needs. The purpose is to make them not feel boring in learning English ,to have something to say , something want to say ,something can say . 3.

It not only attaches importance to cultivating students’ language ability ,but also their learning ability ,including independent learning ability , which will benefit them for life. 4.

Learning language and learning culture are inseparabable ,because language is the carrier of culture and culture is the soul of language . This section has prepared some cultural content ,including our national culture and the culture of English—speaking countries .Through the study of cultural content , their minds will be richer ,their minds will be more active ,their communication will be more appropriate . Go on learning present progressive tense, talk about what people are doing ; Know about the differences in traditional culture between China and the US; Master some reading skills, get effective informations quickly; Retell this passage in a special way. Teaching procedure: 1.

Lead-in: Teacher shows a picture of the Dragon Boat Festival, and tell students something about this traditional festival. A long time ago in China , there was a famous poet named Qu Yuan . He was one of the emperor’s most loyal servants . However , the emperor’s advisors were very jealous of Chu Yuan . They said terrible things to make him look bad .Unfortunately ,the emperor believed them and forced the poet to return to his village . Upset about losing the emperor’s trust ,Qu Yuan decided to end his own life .

So , on the fifth day of lunar month , he jumped into the Milo River and drowned himself . The people in the village felt Qu Yuan was a noble man , and

were sad to here about his death .So , as a way of paying respects ,they threw bamboo leaves filled with rice and beat on dreams . This was to keep the fish from destroying his body . And to honor the poet’s memory ,the village made rice dumplings and held boat races on that same day every year . Now ,we call this time of year “Dragon Boat Festival ”. We celebrate it to remember Qu Yuan’s devotion to the emperor .

Listen to the tape: Listen to the tape and underline the sentences with present progressive tense. He is now studying in the United States. He is living with an American family in New York . His mom and aunt are making zongzi.

His dad and uncle are watching the boat races on TV. Is Zhu Hui also watching the boat races and eating zongzi ? The mother is reading a story to her young children . The father is watching a soccer game on TV . And what’s Zhu Hui doing ? He is talking on the phone to his cousin in Shenzhen . 3.

Fast reading: Think about two questions while reading: ﹙1﹚. Why are Zhu Hui’s family watching boat races and making zongzi? ﹙2﹚. Does Zhu Hui like his host family? What does he think about his home in China? After reading, check the answers. Because today is the Dragon Boat Festival . Yes , he does . Zhu Hui misses his family and wishes to have his mom’s delicious zongzi . Here , students may have different answers to the second question ,for example ,they may say like this : Zhu Hui likes New York and his host family a lot , but there is still “no place like home ”. The teacher should

explain the question as clearly as possible . 4.

Careful reading: Students read the passage together and finish the following tasks: ﹙1﹚. Find important phrases: The United Stated、live with、Dragon Boat Festival、watch boat races、any other、host family、read a story to…

Second , ask students to complete the two charts without looking at the textbook . Third , encourage students to try to combine the table contents ,if they can do the task well ,it is equivalent to their retelling the text .Then the task of reciting the text in class will be finished . 5.

Post reading Fill in the blanks according to the report. Zhu Hui is _____ with an American family in New York.

After completing the above table task ,this becomes very simple .Of course ,the teacher can ask some students who are less advanced .In this way ,we will take care of the students at differents levels and try our best to make every student get a sense of achievement . 6.

Role—play: Work in pairs. One acts as Zhu Hui, and the other acts as the TV reporter. The reporter can ask whatever he wants to .﹙In this part, we should pay attention that: perhaps students can’t open their mind, they can’t ask some more questions about the passage. Teacher should give them some tips or advice. For example: How old is Zhu Hui ? Why can Zhu Hui study in the US? Do you want to study in other countries? Why don’t Americans have a Dragon Boat Festival, but we celebrate Christmas in China?）

This activity may arouse students’ interests greatly. It can not only help students master textual knowledge, but also help them practice oral English and push the whole class atmosphere to the climax. 7.

Homework. Image that it is 8 in the evening ,take a picture of your family ,and write an article ,tell me what your family are doing . Analysis of teaching chatacteristics: This class has a clear idea and links are designed with every detail . Giving students questions step by step . In particular , the unique design of the activity pushed the classroom atmosphere to a climax .The students were fully active and the activity was designed as well . This not only assesses the students’ mastery of textual knowledge, and also exercises their oral communication ability , the comprehensive quality of the students has been greatly improved .
