I. Teaching aims and learning objectives By the end of the lesson, students should be able to: 1. know more about animals; 2. get related information from the listening materials;

3. complete a passage using the information from the listening materials; 4. learn to talk about the amazing things.

II. Teaching contents New words and phrases: snake, camel, ant, little, dry, without, 3-D, chalk, be afraid of, not … any more, hear of, the other day, at the same time

III. Focus of the lesson and predicted area of difficulty 1. Extract information from listening to complete a thank-you letter; 2. Learn some phrases and sentence structures.

IV. Teaching procedures A

Talking about animals

Step 1 Lead-in 1.Enjoy a video about animals.

2.Play a guessing game.

T: Boys and girls, let’s play a guessing game. Please listen to me carefully, and guess what animal it is.

Picture 1: It’s black and white.It likes eating bamboo.What animal is it? Picture 2: It’s clever and funny.It jumps around .What animal is it? Picture 3:It can fly. It can make beautiful sounds.What animal is it? Pictures 4:It's quite tall. It has a long neck. What animal is it? 3.Introduce more animals to the students.(snake ,camel,ant)

T:Today we are going to learn more animals. 【设计意图：通过文字描述和老师的动作，猜测老师描述的是哪种动物。复习第4单元已学过的内容，导入本课内容。】

Step 2 Presentation

1. Listening. T: Mr Wu is showing Suzy some pictures of animals. Look at these pictures and what are they? 【设计意图：通过看图片介绍四种新的动物。】

T: Listen to the tape. Put the pictures in the correct order. Write the numbers 1-4 in the boxes.

【设计意图：听听力材料，完成书本A1部分练习。】

Do a survey.

T:Let’s do a survey.Do you like these animals?If you like these animals,please put up your hands.

【设计意图：通过调查，了解孩子们对各个动物的喜爱程度，自然过渡到A2部分。】

3.Listen and complete. T: Suzy is afraid of animals. Mr Wu wants to help her. He is telling her some interesting things about animals. Listen to their conversation and complete the sentences. 【设计意图：通过听力，完成书本A2部分练习。】

4. Finish a thank-you letter. T: Suzy is not afraid of animals now. She is writing a thank-you letter to Mr Wu. Help her finish the letter.

【设计意图：回归课文，完成书上A3部分练习。学会从听力材料中获取相关信息，并能用已掌握的信息使相关文章意思表达完整。】

Speak up: That’s really amazing! Step 1 Lead-in T: Just now we have learnt many amazing things about animals,there are also some other amazing things in the world,now let’s watch a video.

Step 2 Presentation

1.Listen and choose the right answer.

T: The students are talking about amazing things in the world. Listen to the tape and choose the right answer. 【设计意图：通过练习获取听力材料中的相关信息。】

2. Work in groups and role-play the dialogue. 【设计意图：通过练习对话提升学生的口语能力，同时培养学生的小组合作学习精神。】

Step 3 Practice

T：We have learned many amazing things in this world.Let’s work in groups and share the amazing things with your group members. 【设计意图：通过模仿B部分编对话，复习本课句型学生在第一课时所学知识，同时培养学生的小组合作学习精神。】

VI. Summary

Let Ss discuss with their group members and summarize the content they have learnt. VI. Homework 1.Surf the Internet for more amazing things about living things. 2. Finish the exercises in Learning English. 3. Preview Study skills on page 65.
