这是本单元的第一节课：Warming up & Pre-reading，作用是引出单元话题，激发学生讨论发明与发明家话题的热情，为阅读做铺垫。



1)

认读单元词汇表中阅读相关词汇Patent, walnut, distinguish, valid, file等。

2)

了解著名发明家英文名及著名发明相关词汇。

3）学生了解发明，发现，发明家及专利申请相关知识。



学生能用英语谈论发明和发明家。

总结发明家共有的优良品。

Part three 学情分析

高二的学生拥有基本的阅读和英语表达能力，对单元话题有一定兴趣。本课的设计目的就是在第一课时尽最大可能帮助他们做好与话题相关内容的词汇语言准备，为单元接下来的学习做好准备。

Part five 教学过程

Step One Lead-in:

Task1:

talk about know the Four Great Inventions in ancient China.

Purpose:

Introduce the topic with famous inventions in China to arouse students’ interest.

Step Two: Comparison and conclusion Task2:

What are they famous for?

1.Compare the difference between discoveries and inventions.

2.Work out two rules : A discovery is finding out something already existing in nature but not yet known; An invention is creating something not existing before .

Task 3: What’s the connection between discoveries and inventions?

Discoveries often lead to inventions.

Purpose: Lead students to find out the difference between discoveries and inventions and think about the connection between them, which benefits their thinking.

Step Three: Discussion Task 4: How to be a good inventor?

Play a video to show two inventors. Students can use two key words to describe good inventors and explain why they want to use the words. Possible answers:

curious, observant, determined, patient, dream

…

Purpose: students can learn to express their own opinions about what a good inventor is like in their mind. It’s a way to lead them to be exposed to positive values.

Step Four: Pre-reading Task 5:Are you ready to be an inventor? Do you know the stages every inventor must go through?

5. Thinking of a creative solution

6. Deciding on the invention

Find out the right order of the sentences above. Patent office (专利局) plays the role of deciding what is an invention and what is not. And only inventions can get patents and so be recognized and protected.

Purpose: Lead students to think about the stages of an invention and prepare them for reading.

Step Five: Words and expressions

Read the new words and expressions in reading passage:

Purpose: Learn to pronounce new words with the help of the recording and prepare for the reading passage.

Step Five: Homework 1.Read the new words and expressions of the reading as fluently as possible again. 2. Preview the reading: THE PROBLEM OF THE SNAKES

Purpose: To prepare for reading.
