Teaching Content: writing a letter to your parents. Teaching Aims:

After learning this part students are expected to know the structure of a letter, and how to write a letter. Teaching importance and Difficulties: The structure of a letter, especially the heading, salutation and ending. Teaching Procedures：

Step1. Show Ss a picture of envelope and appreciate the song A Letter to My Parents.

T: Hello, everyone. Please look at the screen. What are they?

Ss: They are envelopes.

T: Yes you are right, but do you the name of the song?

Ss: …

T: Yes, its name is A Letter to My Parents. And today we`ll learn to write a letter to our parents. But do you know how to write a letter?

Step2. Show students the form of the letter.

T: When you write a letter, the first part you should write is heading. That means you should write your address and the date you write the letter. And the address should be written from small to big. For example, NO.1 Middle School, Xingren, Guizhou Province, China. As for the date, we usually write like this, day, month, year or month, day, year.

The next part is salutation. That means Dear…, it`s very simple, but most students make mistake here, because they often change the comma into the colon.

Then we come to the body. It`s the most important part. In this part, you can write your purpose, ideas, feelings and so on. The next part is ending , we usually write like this, I`m looking forward to hearing from you. Best wishes. The last part is signature. That is write your name like this, sincerely yours, Li Hua or yours sincerely, Li Hua.

Step3. Show students the assignment of this lesson.

Step4. Give away the envelope to students and take out the letter paper. Then get students look at the letter paper on the screen.

Step5. Get students translate the sentences they may use in the letter. T: You can use these phrases in your letter. Now, let`s try our best to translate them into English. The first one …( Give ss ten seconds to think about and then ask them to read their translation) Step6. Give students 25 minutes to work in groups and write the letter.

T: It`s your turn to write your letter, if you have any problem, please put up your hands. Step7. Show students` letter on the screen and get students read their letters loudly. T: Have you finished it? Anybody want to read your letter for us? Please raise your hands…

Step8. Get students hand in their letters.

T: Please put your letters into the envelopes and hand in. I`ll help you post them.. Step9. Homework Please revise the form of the letter.
