Grade 7, Longxing Middle School Starter Unit 2 What’s this in English？

3a-3e Teaching Design Wu Xue The analysis of the textbook: By understanding the National English Curriculum 2011, students in Grade 7 should be able to listen, speak, read and write by using some everyday English. In Starter Unit2, students will master some new words like “ruler, map, quilt, orange, spell and so on.” and they will do some listening tasks step by step in 3a-3d. In 3e they will practice talking about the things in English with the words and sentences they got in Starter Unit2 and spell the words they are talking about.

The analysis of the students: Students in Grade 7 are smart and active. They are interested in learning something new. But they can’t focus on one thing for a long time. In Starter Unit2 1a-1c, they’ve learnt how to ask and answer with the pattern“---What’s this…in English? --- It’s…” so it is easy for them to finish these tasks. Teaching aims: 1. Have students master the new words: “spell, please”

2. Have students master the new structure: “Spell it, please. M-A-P.” and review the structure: “What’s this/that in English? It’s…a/an…”

with the words jacket, quilt, orange and so on. 3. Be able to ask and answer fluently about the things with the sentence pattern: “What’s this/that in English? It’s a/an…”, “Spell it, please. ...”

4. Develop the students’

abilities of Listening and talking in English. And develop the ability of corporation.. Important points: Have students master the new words: “spell, please”

and master the new structure: “Spell it, please. M-A-P.”
