Module 4 Unit1 Can you tell me about American festivals ?
[教学目标]
1. Enable to know the culture of American festivals and describe the customs of Thanksgiving.
2. Enable to introduce more Chinese and western festivals.
3. To let the students know that they should say “Thank you” to those people who helps them especially their parents , teachers, relatives and friends.
[教学重点]
1. Enable to grasp the sentences of “Can you tell me about American festivals?” and “Thanksgiving is an American festival.”
2. Enabl to grasp the new words : special, hear and nearly.
[教学难点]
1. Enable to describe the customs of Thanksgiving and other festivals.
2.To use the words : happen, important, etc. correctly. [教学准备]
1.To let students find the information about Thanksgiving and other festivals on books or computer. 2. Prepair some pictures of Thanksgiving. Or make slide to introduce Thanksgiving on computer.
[教学流程]
一. Warm- up(热身活动)
T: Hello. Boys and girls! There is a very important festival for our Chinese nearly here. Can you tell me the name of it?
Ss: That’s National Day.
T: Yes, that’s true. What are you going to do? S1: I’ll go to my grandparents’ home.
S2: I am going to travel.
S3,4,5,6……
T: Good plans. Can you tell me more about the festivals? Ss give the list and T writes them on the blackboard. And asks “When is it?”
New Year------- in January
the Spring Festival ------- in January or February Children’s Day-------- in June
Christmas----- in December
Easter------- in April
Halloween------- in October
the Dragon-Boat Festival ------- in June or July the Mid-Autumn Festival------- in
September or October
Lantern Festival ------- in February
T: That’s wonderful! What’s your favorite festival? S1: My favorite festival is Children’s Day.
S2: My favorite festival is the Spring Festival. 二. Presentation(介绍新语言项目)
T: Do you know Simon’s favorite festival? Please watch the TV. I’ll show some pictures for you ?
T shows some pictures of the symbols of
Thanksgiving------ turkey, corn, pumpkins and cranberry sauce(酸果曼沙司)
Today Daming will know a very important American festival----Thanksgiving from Simon. What do they talk about Thanksgiving? Now let’s come to our new text. 三. New teaching(课文教学)
1.Watch the CD-ROM (Listen to the tape) with several questions
T: Before we listen to the text, I’ll give you some questions about it. You should give me the answers after listening. OK?
Q1: What is Simon’s favorite festival?
Q2: When is it?
Q3: What happens?
2. Lead students to answer these questions.
T: What is Simon’s favorite festival?
S1:His favorite festival is Thanksgiving.
T: When is it?
S2: It’s in November,
T: What happens?
S3: Families are together.
S4: They have a big special dinner.
S5: They say thank you for their all the good things they have.
S6: They have a lot of fun.
T: Super!
3. Listen again.
T: Now let’s listen again, then please tell me what you hear. (Teacher plays the CD-ROM or the cassette) Now, tell me what you heard just now.
Students say out what they heard. Teacher writes them down.
4. New words.
T: You‘ve told me the words and sentences you heard just now, you ‘ve done a good job. But can you tell me what the meaning of “hear” is?
T: Good! I remember that we’ve learnt the other word of “听”, what is it?
S2: Listen!
T: What the difference between these two words? hear听到, 听说,(强调听的内容)
listen 听(强调听的动作)----listen to
T: Can you change one letter of “hear”, then make a new word?
T: Good, what’s meaning “near”?
Ss: 附近!
T: Can you tell me about “nearly”?
Ss:几乎。
T: Yes, it means almost, close to, just about. What kind of festival is Thanksgiving in America? Ss: It’s very important.
T: What kind of dinner do people have on Thanksgiving?
Ss: They have a big special dinner.
T: Why is a special dinner?
Ss: They say thank you for the good things they have. Families are together.
T: They eat turkeys, corn, pumpkins and cranberry sauce (酸果曼沙司). So that’s very special. What’s meaning “special”?
Ss: 特殊的,特别的
T: Give me some phrases with “special”!
Ss one by one: a special day, a special festival, a special teacher……
5. Read the text. Try to retell what people do on Thanksgiving.
四. Practice(练习)
1. Read the dialogue in different roles.
2. Listen and circle the correct answers. (Activity Book P14-1)
3. Listen and complete. (Activity Book P14-2) T: What’s the girl’s favorite festival?
Ss: Mid-Autumn Day.
T: When is it?
Ss: It’s in September.
T: What do people do ?
Ss: People often get together, watch the big moon and eat the moon cakes.
4.Introduce the customs of the Spring Festival in small groups.
T: When is the Spring Festival?
G1: It’s in January or February.
T: What do you do?
G2: We always have a big meal. It’s a family dinner. All the family members will get together.
G3: On Spring Festival, we usually eat dumplings, watch TV programs, play cards or Majiang and shoot the firecrackers(爆竹) and fireworks(烟花) in the evening.
G4: And we can get the “Lucky Money”(压岁钱) from our parents or grandparents and wear new clothes. 五、Production(任务完成)What’s your favorite festival? To investigate your friend, write down what is his or her favorite festival and why.
六、Summary and homework(小结与作业)
a)Practice reading the dialogue of Module 4.
b)Write a short passage to introduce the custom of Thanksgiving and the Spring Festival.
c)Finish the exercise on Activity Book (Page 15-3) 新标准十一册教学设计
