An Exciting Job

本节课是来自人教新课标模块六第五单元的阅读课。文章是一位火山学家的自述。作者首先介绍了他的工作性质。他的主要工作是收集基拉韦厄火山的资料,并和其他科学家一起分析和预测火山岩浆的流速和方向。火山爆发本身不会造成很大的损失,因为山顶附近没有居民,但是从山上流下来的熔岩会烧毁和埋没周围的城镇,所以要预防次生灾害,那么就得分析和预测火山岩浆的流速和方向,所以火山学家的工作其实是至关重要。作者在文中描述了一次亲眼观看火山爆发的过程和有一次火山爆发后,有幸和另外两位科学家来到火山口采集岩浆以做研究的过程。这些构成了文章的明线。而文章另有一条主线是作者的工作态度和高尚情操。作为火山学家工作既辛苦又危险,而作者却几十年如一日的热爱自己的这份工作,正如作者在文章开头就提到的“However, the most important thing about my job is that I help protect ordinary people from one of the most powerful forces on earth-the volcano.” 一直隐藏在文字背后的这条暗线到了文章结尾终于得以升华。在文章结尾作者是这么说的“Today, I am just as enthusiastic about my job as the day I first started. Having studied volcanoes now for many years, I am still amazed at their beauty as well as their potential to cause great damage.” 许多年后,火山对他的吸引力依然不减。作者认为自己的工作能帮助到别人所以他才觉得有意义,而正是因为认为自己工作有意义,他才热爱自己的工作并能发现工作中的很多美丽。全文明暗线交织,针对本文我觉得更应该引导学生挖掘故事背后隐藏的含义。因为地域原因,很多学生毕业后可能不需要选择火山学家这份工作,但是这位火山学家给我们传递的工作态度与人格魅力却是非常值得我们同学去学习的,所以这应该是本文解读和相关教学设计的重点。

2教学目标

1.知识目标(Knowledge Objectives) 通过导入交流、文本阅读、句子理解、读后填空巩固等方式,让学生接触一些与情感表达有关的词句如…,I am never bored…; I don’t mind because danger excites me and makes me feel alive; Today, I am just as enthusiastic about my job as the day I first started. Having studied volcanoes now for many years, I am still amazed at their beauty as well as their potential to cause great damage…

2.能力和技能目标(Ability and Skill Objectives) 通过文本阅读和解读,学生将提高用英语获取信息、处理信息、分析问题、解决问题的能力和用英语思维、用英语表达观点及交流情感的能力。具体目标为: ①学生能够运用略读,理清文章的基本结构,了解文章大意。通过细读了解故事细节,寻找细节信息,在理解故事的基础上对内在的深层含义进行分析、体会和思考,并对文章主题和标题有较好的把握和提升。

②学生能够通过对美文佳句的欣赏逐步养成美文赏析意识。

③学生能通过小组讨论学会合作探究和思考,培养评判性思维,通过结合文中主角事迹和自身实际,学生能反思自己的情感体验和行为,同时培养写作能力。

3.学习策略(Learning Strategy) 通过读前、读时和读后活动的参与,学生将独立解决一些问题,强化自主探究学习策略。同时通过同桌、小组讨论,进一步强化合作学习策略。通过师生交流和生生交流,学生将充分感受到交际学习策略在学习过程中的作用。

4.情感目标与文化意识(Affection Objectives & Cultural Awareness) 学生通过本文学习能体会火山学家工作的伟大并能透过作者对工作的积极态度与热情领悟到真正决定工作成败的是工作态度和出发点,并且籍此而对自己的未来职业能有所规划与感知。

3学情分析

本节授课对象为本校高三实验班的学生,从学生的认知程度来看,已具备相当的词汇量,并且具备了一定的阅读能力,所以对于文本的字面理解和浅层内容应该不会有很大的困难。而工作态度也是他们今后毕业走上社会不可避开的话题,所以联系已有的知识结构与社会体验应该有话可说。本课设计重在引导学生思维与老师一起去感知和体会文本内在的精髓。

4重点难点

1.通过略读、细读、查读等方式培养学生全方位的阅读技巧。

2.帮助学生理解、分析、感悟文本信息并解读它们的寓意。

3.引导学生对文章明暗主线的把握和主题的探讨。

4.引导学生对文章优美语言的赏读。

Students watch a cctv report on the eastern star cruise ship disaster and talk on the topic “Can anything be done to protect

people from those natural disasters like tornado, earthquake, volcano, etc. introduce the job as an volcanologist.

3.Read carefully-my job

(1) Students read Para. 2 carefully to find out when, where the author began his job and what he did as as a volcanologist.

(2) “However, the most important thing about my job is that I help protect ordinary people from one of the most powerful forces on the earth-the volcano.”(para.1)

How did he help protect ordinary people from volcano eruption?

(3)Read para.3 to find out what causes more damage, lava or eruption itself.

(4) “However, the eruption itself is really exciting to watch and I shall never forget my first sight of one” read about author’s

description of his first experience of an eruption in para.3 and find out what made him realize that an eruption had occurred

(5) Read para.4 to find out what volcanologists do after an eruption and fill in the blanks.
