Analysis of the teaching material:

There are two parts in the reading passage. The first part is a letter from a grandpa to his grandson. Grandpa lives a long and healthy life，but he used to be addicted to nicotine，so he lists reasons for being addicted and the harm of smoking. The second part gives advice on how to stop smoking. Comprehending consists of four kinds of exercises for the students so as to help the students get a better understanding of the text，that is to say，to help the teacher

check how much the students have understood the text. Exercise 1：read the passage and finish the reading comprehension exercise；Exercise 2：True or false exercise for Para1-2. Exercise3: fill in the blanks about the content of Para 3-4；Exercise 4：

choose the best answers to complete the passage. Teaching goals:

Teaching procedures Step 1 Warming up and lead in

Watch a video about health, talk about what the healthy habits are and lead in the unhealthy habits.

Show some pictures about unhealthy habits to arouse the students’

interest and background knowledge. Meanwhile, learn the

new words and phrases from the sentences.

Step 2

Reading and comprehending

Task1. Fast-reading. Ask the students to read the passage and finish the reading comprehension exercises so as to get the general idea of the passage.

Task2．Detailed－reading (1) Ask students to read Para1-2 carefully to get some specific information and finish the true or false exercises. (2) Ask the students to read Para 3-4 for detailed information and fill in the blanks. Deal with any language problems students might not understand so as to help the students better understand of the text. Step3 Summary the letter and come to the internet page about How to stop smoking. Finish exercise 4 (七选五), choose the best answers to complete the passage, and conclude the ways to stop smoking with students. Step 4

Group work: Discuss and make a poster

Non-smoking day is coming. Our school will hold an exhibition to show the bad effects of smoking. Please design a poster. to advise people not to smoke. Step 5

Homework
