Step1. Words revision --- “cloning” the words

Read the article provided, and underline some important verbs, phrases and sentence-structures. Then choose tasks from the speed-dial question bank and answer them, you may write down some important points.

(Read the article and underline useful expressions) When people talked about clone, Dolly the sheep, which was still in good condition at that time, all the scientists’ efforts paid off. The fact that she seemed to develop normally was more than encouraging. Shortly after that, scientists were cast down to find that Dolly had become seriously ill, which concerned the whole world. Altogether Dolly lived six and a half years, half the length of the life of the original sheep. Despite her problems, Dolly successfully produced a lamb in a natural birth.

People’s attitudes differ from each other on cloning. The majority are in favor of the statement that cloning opens everybody’s eyes to the possibility of using cloning to cure serious illnesses and even to produce human beings while the minority object to cloning, arguing that the question whether arbitrary fate will affect other species still worries all scientists. It once raised a storm of objections and government began to reform their legal systems and forbade research into human cloning, which was bound to enable people to do more research on cloning to keep its safety.
