My First Ride on a Train 为话题This text is about travel journal，by learning the author’s own experiences and stories,students can learn some words and expressions of means of transportation and descriptions of tourists attractions. By the end of the lesson,the students are able to use theses words and expressions to tell a travel story or write a travel journal. The students have just started the senior high school life,so the teacher is supposed to stimulate the students’ love for English reading and help the students to build up the structure of the passage by pairwork groupwork or classwork. Thus, some effective reading strategies can be developed. 二、Teaching Objectives: By the end of the class, students will be able to 1．Knowledge objectives 1）To develop students’ abilities of skimming scanning and forming the structure of the text, making students develop the abilities of imagination , connection and logical analysis. Master some words and expressions about means of transportation and travel journal. By learning some long and difficult sentences in the text, the students get to know some grammar. 2）To help students to talk or write their own travel journal given topics 2.Language skill objectives: Identify the structure of the text which includes the topic sentences, supporting details.etc. Students can get the main idea of the text, understand the writing purpose. The students can guess some new word according to the context. 3．Strategy objectives To encourage students to get effective information by self-adjustment and interaction with other classmates 1）Task-based strategy: learning by doing,practising; consolidating by doing the tasks 2）Respect the different level of the students: from simple tasks to complicated ones, making students reach the final learning tasks step by step. 4．Emotional objectives Stimulated by this interesting topic, the students can actively take part in all kinds of class activities. When appreciating the beautiful scenery of Australia, students can strengthen their interest in English studying and are glad to cooperate with each other. 5．Across Culture objectives 1）Enable students to know some history, culture and customs of Australia.

Teacher first slide show a picture of a famous tourist attraction in Sichuan Province---- Jiayang Steam Train. Teacher talks about his National Holidays Trip to Jiayang. Teacher guides students to ask teacher questions about his ride on this steam train. Tell them how this steam train become a tourist attraction.The students may ask the schedule ,the view ,the landmarks of the destinations, Then ask what they will choose to go to Australia.Furthermore they discuss about the means of transport in Australia(plane, motorbike, ship, taxi, ferry, bicycle, train, tram, bus, helicopter, etc.). This helps the whole class prepare background knowledge and get motivated and above all the students learn to work together.(ss can talk about pictures on the screen about Australia.Students also try to get to know the elements to write a travel journal)

1.Ask students to skim the passage within 1 minute and check whether their ideas are in line with the text, read the title and discuss what kind of form they think the passage can be. ss know it is a narration. By reading the title, judge what kind of article it is. As it is a good way to know the content of a text by knowing what kind of article it is,thus strengthen the awareness of the key elements to write a narration. Step3. Fast reading

In order to make the students correctly find the travelling route, they first mark all the places the girl been to, and then connect them together to get the trip route. From key words to details, students can improve their abilities to find out details and deal with these materials. Step5.

Post- reading

Consolidation

10min Teacher divide the students into several groups and the students ask questions each other. Then some students orally present their travel experience.Teacher helps the students to ask effective questions,including the elements of a travel journal such as Who/When/where/What/How, at the same time, student must draw a travel route to help the other students better understand their trip. 【Teaching aim of the step设计意图】

adopt a form of communication, by group discussion, students can use what they learned in the text to put it into practice----introduce their own travel. It not only improve students ability of rearrange information, but also improve their awareness of cooperation. Step6. Homework

Write a short passage about your wonderful trip during the National Holidays.(about 100 words) The writing must include: 1.

This part is a extension of the reading. The topic of reading is about travel in middle of Australia and the experience of Ghan train.
