课堂设计指导思想：

通过本课的学习，让学生了解奥运会的历史和重要性以及一些著名奥运选手的事迹，引导学生思考奥运精神的本质并帮助他们树立对待成功的正确态度。同时，设计各种活动培养学生的阅读能力。

Teaching aims (教学目标) (1)

To help the students know something about the history of the Olympic Games and some famous Olympic athletes. (2)

To help the students to develop some basic reading skills and

adopt the strategy--- reading a speech.

To help the students to think about what they can learn from the Olympics and those famous Olympic athletes.

2．Analysis of the students (学情分析) The students have learnt some information about the Olympic Games and how to plan an outline for a speech (in Module3 Unit3 Task) , so it is not difficult for the students to finish the tasks in the teaching procedures.

3．Teaching important and difficult points (重点难点)

(1) Summarizing some information about the Olympic Games and some famous Olympic athletes. (2) Understanding how to make a successful speech. (3) Understanding what attitude we should have to success.

Show the students a short video of the opening ceremony of the 2008 Beijing Olympics. 2.

Divide the class into four groups and then show the pictures of these athletes to the students.

Ask the students to discuss the following questions: 1.

What are the secrets of the success of these famous athletes in the Olympics?

(Set a goal , face the difficulty bravely, never give up, work hard….)

In the Olympic Games, it seems that only the athletes who won the gold medals can be remembered by people. So , do you think whether the hopeless athletes for gold medals give in or not? Why? 3.

How do you understand the Olympic motto--- Swifter, higher and stronger? Does it mean that you should beat others or yourself? So, what’s the purpose of your going to school to receive education? ( The essence of education is to make yourself better than before not than others. So, if you can’t get the first place , don’t feel depressed. If you can make yourself better than before, you are successful.) 设计说明

：通过讨论，让学生们更深刻地理解奥运精神以及树立正确对待成功的态度。学生们的心理健康状况令人堪忧，究其原因是社会对待成功的不正确看法给学生带来的压力造成的。因此，老师有必要引导学生正确对待这个问题。
