S1: …( teacher reminds the students of using past tense.)
T: Good job. Now, let’s listen to the tape and find out sentences in the past tense.
Step 2 Past tense time expressions (Ss. say these sentences. When they mention past tense time expressions, the teacher writes them on the blackboard. )

One night… At (about) midnight…
A long time ago…
A hundred and fifty years ago…
In 1925…
(表1)
(At the same time, write the following three sentences on the blackboard.)
We ate great meals cooked by experts.
We saw abandoned farms which were built more than a hundred years ago. Trained camels carried food and other supplies.

Step 3
The –ed form T: Class, please read the three sentences on the right side of the blackboard (表2). Pay attention to the words in red. Cooked, abandoned, trained are past participles of verbs, but here they are used as adjectives. What are the infinitive forms of the verbs? S: cook, abandon, train.
T: Look at the order of the words. The first is noun + adj., the other two are adj. + noun. Why are they different? …
T: When we use past participles as attributive, if it is a single word, we put it before a noun; if the word is followed by some phrases or adverbial phrases or prepositional phrases, we put it behind a noun. I’ll give you more examples, let’s do some translations.
