I. Teaching objectives 1. Ability aims 1) Develop students’ reading ability by fast reading and careful reading

4) Enable the students to get more information about Nelson Mandela to improve the students’ comprehension ability.

Knowledge aims 1) Get students to know the basic knowledge about Nelson Mandela. 2) Get students to know some important words and phrases in reading, such as devote to, invader, fight for, found, selfless. 3) Review the attributive clauses，especially using Relative Adverb when/where/why. 3. Emotion aims 1) Understand the qualities great people have in common and learn the fine qualities from them. 2) Develop the students’ moral quality.

After enjoying, ask the students some questions in a moving atmosphere. 1. Do you like this song? 2. Do you know what it is about? 3. What’s the name of this song?

Step 2 Pre-reading 1. Get the students to play a guessing game to recognize some famous people and great people (William Tyndale, Norman Bethune, Sun Yat-sen, Gandhi, and Neil Armstrong). 2. Show students more examples about famous people and great people to know the difference between them.(Angelababy, Big bang, Premier Zhou, and Albert Einstein) (Most great people are also famous people, but famous people may not be great people.) 3. Get the students to find the definition of a great person. (a great person is someone who devotes his/her life to helping others.) 4. Get the students to know about Nelson Mandela. 1) He fought for black people and was in prison for almost thirsty years.

2) He helped black people get the same rights as white people. 3) He was chosen as the first black president of South Africa. 4) He was given the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993. Step 3 Reading

1. Listening to the audio and find the essential items in a story. (Time, Place, Characters, Events) 2. Fast reading Please read the text quickly and divide the parts according to the main idea.
