I.

Guiding ideology and theoretical basis This lesson is designed according to the New Curriculum Standards of Senior English Compulsory Education and the Modern Education Faiths---student centered. 1. The teacher should cultivate the students’

comprehensive language skills, including knowledge, ability, attitude, strategy and emotion. 2. The students are able to be positive in class. In this way, they can learn some effective methods and exploit potentialities. 3. The teacher should concentrate on leading them to develop their emotion and sense of worth. The students’ humanity are able to be improved.

II.

Teaching background 1. Analysis of the Teaching Material A.

The textbook is chiefly for the students of grade 3 in senior high school. B.

The teaching contents are unit 2 of book ten published by the People’s Education Press. The topic of this unit focused on the famous drama King Lear . The reading material is King Lear, which is about the relationship between King Lear and his three daughters. From this passage, they can but also learn to use language by listening, speaking, reading and writing. Meanwhile they can learn to realize the importance of love between families.

The main purpose of this unit is to teach the students to learn some main words and phrases. At the same time, the students can learn to develop the

awareness of unity. They can be clear about the spirit of love. 2. Analysis of the students D.

The students of grade one have already learned nine English books, as a result, they become more familiar with the English courses of senior high school. Compared to the knowledge they have learned when they just began to learn English in senior high school, book ten varies from degree of difficult to amount of content. So the purpose of this book is to improve the students’ learning ability in all ways. E.

The students have too many tasks to finish every day. Under the great pressure, the students need to learn to appreciate the beautiful things in this world, like drama. The students can learn the significance of love after learning this unit. F.

Most students have had a good command of some grammar rules and vocabulary, which makes it possible for them to learn by themselves or by group work. They can try to follow the teacher. Besides, their ability of reading and understanding passages have improved .So The teacher should focus on guide them to understand the text by themselves and sum up what they have learned by themselves. A. Knowledge 1. The teacher is supposed to help students not only know the meaning of new words, structures and grammar rules but also teach them to use them to make complex sentences. What’s more, I should make efforts to give them a clear instruction of writing passages and communicating with others. 2. The teacher needs to give an effective class about the reading of this unit. Suitable questions and organization are expected to help the students to understand the whole passage.

B. Skill I have to tell the students the main clue of King Lear. They can learn to concentrate on the spirits of honesty.

Teaching Procedures Step1. Lead-in A.

The teacher will show a short period of King Lear. Step2. Warming up A.

The teacher will show some pictures about King Lear. The students are able to improve their spoken ability and remind them of the information about King Lear. B.

The teacher introduces the drama. Step3. Pre-reading The teacher asks the students to answer the following questions. The students answer it together according to what they have previewed. So they can have an initial impression on what they are going to learn.

A. Do you know how to show your love to your parents? With sweet words or actual actions? What have you ever done for that? B. Have you ever read King Lear? Have you seen the drama? Whatdid you think of it? Step4. While-reading A.

Skimming The teacher will give the students four minutes to skim the text and then do find out the main characters, the general idea and the main conflict of the text. This part is collective work. B.

Scanning The teacher will ask the students to scan the text in five minutes and answer some questions about details. The students need to do it individually. 1.What had Lear expected to happen in his old age?

2.Why has Lear called for the King of

France and the Duke of Burgundy? 3.What has Lear decided to do with his kingdom? 4.What is he going to do when he retires ? 5. Who will not get the land from King Lear? C.

Careful reading

In this part, the teacher uses task-based teaching method to ask the students to skim and scan the reading with task, in this way we get better results in teaching. The students are able to improve their skimming and scanning ability. Step5. Post-reading

Group work: The teacher asks the students to discuss in group of four play roles. After four minutes, the teacher will ask each group to show their performance on the blackboard. Discussion: If you have a chance to talk with the characters in this drama, what would you like to say? Step6. Summary The teacher asks all the students to summarize this passage together. Complete the plot diagram.
