Teaching aims: 1.

Knowledge aim: Let the students learn the knowledge about the ancestors’ life

Ability aim: Train the students’ reading and writing ability

Emotional aim: Develop the students’ sense of exploring and admiring

our ancestors. Teaching important points: 1.

To help students develop their reading and writing abilities. 2.

To help students express their ideas and opinions in English more fluently Teaching difficult points: How to describe an archaeological object with some useful expressions. The analysis of the students:

Most students’

studying attitude is very good. They can preview the reading materials carefully. And they can take an active part in the class activities. But their basic knowledge is poor, they can not understand the long and difficult sentences well, and they are not good at expressing themselves properly in English. So I designed different tasks to give different students more chances to improve their listening ,speaking ,reading ,understanding and writing abilities. Teaching methods: Task-based teaching; Group work; Cooperative learning Teaching procedures: StepⅠLeading-in Look at a movie poster. Show the students some pictures to learn about the ancestors’ life.

Pre-reading

Skimming to get the general idea

1. Present some tips on skimming

2. Read the passage to find when, where, who and what in the story. StepⅢ

Reading 1. Scanning to get the detailed information

(1) Present some tips on scanning

(2) Scan the passage to get the main idea of each paragraph.

(3) Do some exercises. Choose the best answers.

(4) Fill in a chart. Read the passage and find out what the possible work division

was between man and women in primitive society. StepⅣ

Discussion and Speaking 1. Work in groups. 2. Present some adjectives to the students. And use the adjectives to describe Lala and

Dahu’s Work.

The adjectives: caring, tough, protective, dangerous, safe, useful....... For example: I think hunting is dangerous, because……

Writing 1.

Show some pictures. The objects on the picture were found during an excavation

the Sanxingdui Ruins. 2.

Describe the objects.

Present some information to the students. 3. Present an example:

This is a bronze tree which was found at Sanxingdui archaeological site between

3000 and 5000 years ago. It is 395cm high and looks like a small tree. Each branch has three kinds of fruit. One fruit is a peach and it is in good condition.

It might have religious meaning and be used in worship of Gods of Harvest. People at that time may have a high level of craftsmanship. They might also believe in a

nature religion. This object does not Have a practical purpose, which shows that the people had a quite High standard of living and culture of their own. 4. Present some useful expressions: It looks like…

Is there any… on the …?

Is it in good/poor condition? What do you think it is? 5. Ask the students to write a description for the archaeological object. Then present

Step VII Homework Write a paragraph about one of the objects. Remember to check your own work for correct grammar, spelling and punctuation. Use headings to organize your writing.
