Lead-in

T: This lesson we are going to learn Unit 5, the second part of using language .The title 0f reading: The feast:18,000BC

What can you see in these pictures? S: We can see some pictures some delicious food, fruit and so on. Besides, some people are getting together to have a dinner. T: What will people do here? S: They will have a feast. T: Look at picture 6,ask and answer four questions with the students. When will we have a feast? Usually at festivals 2. How do we feel when we have a feast? Happy and lucky 3. What do we do to prepare for our feast? Food ,fruit ,decorations and so on 4. Besides having a dinner together, what will we do when we have a feast? Enjoy the family reunion.

T: Just now, we spent some time talking about modern feast,can you guess what would be eaten on the feast in 18,000BC?What are these? Do you know? S: They are Peking man’s skullcaps T: Where can we find Peking man’s sites? S: In Zhou Koudian caves T: What do you know anything about Peking man from these pictures? S1: The study of geological strata indicated that Peking man lived about 700, 000 to 200,000 years ago. The average brain volume of these people was 1,088 ml (the average for modern people is 1,400 ml). And it is estimated that their average height reached 156 cm for males and 150 cm for females.

S2: Peking Man was among the first human beings to learn how to use fire, and could hunt large animals. Their average life expectancy was short; it is estimated that 68.2% of them died by the age of 14, and only 4.5% lived up to 50 years.

T: Wang Qingyun and Gong Shiyi did very well. From their introduction, we learned something about the life of Peking man. Peking Man’s life is part of our ancient ancestors. What about the general ancestors’ life? Now turn to page 43 and look at the pictures and think what these early people are doing?

S1: Some are preparing food. S2: One is making tools by sharpening stone tools and scraper. T: Good. From the picture, we can learn something about early people’s life. Now read the passage and find out what the life was like. Step Ⅲ
