A Lively City Teaching Design Part 1: The analysis of the teaching material

1. The analysis of teaching content:

The text talks about the city Xiamen including its location ,weather ,tourism ,architecture ,housing ,business district and etc in the form of dialogue .In this class, students will learn about the city of Xiamen ,remember some words and useful languages to describe a city, know how to describe and try to describe a city. By describing a city, students will learn more cities and then love their own city and China.

2. The analysis of the student situation:

It isn’t long since they came into senior school ,so it’s important to stimulate their interest in English and learn how to get information quickly and correctly. They have a certain ability to read. But they are lack of vocabulary to describe a city vividly and clearly. Most of the students are afraid to talk in public, so the class atmosphere is not very easy. Part 2: Teaching aims

1. Knowledge objectives

(1) Important words and phrases:

hometown, attractive, fortunate, pretty.

sound, tourist, bother, nuisance, rent, district, approach, harbor, gorgeous, architecture, starve,

park, put up

(2) Important sentences: It's been six years since... This is the first time that... You live in the northwest of Xiamen, is that right? Pretty hot and wet in the summer, but it can be quite cold in winter. 2. Skill goals (1) Train the students speaking abilities. (2) Improve the students’ reading skills.

(3) Enable the students to learn more words to describe their homes and grasp the main idea of the passage in reading and vocabulary. (4) Enable the students to describe the city of Xiamen. (5) Help the students to learn how to introduce or describe a city from different aspects, such as its location, climate, and famous tourist attractions etc. 3. Emotion and Values

(1) Try to raise the students cooperation awareness in their study by pair work or group work. (2) Request the students to love their homeland and their hometown. Part 3: Teaching important and difficult points

1. Teaching important points (1) Encourage the students to talk about buildings. (2) Train the students’ reading ability

(3) Teach the students some difficult language points. (4) Enable the students to learn words and expressions used to describe a place. (5) Make the students make sense of the whole passage. 2. Teaching difficult points (1) How to help the students improve their reading ability. (2) How to help the students make sense of the passage. (3) How to help students talk in class actively. (4) Deal with some difficult language points. Part 4 Teaching Methods: 1.

Task-Based Language Teaching The students can get the meaning of the words and phrases. Practice can help the students get the general idea and have a better understanding of how to describe a city.

2. Communicative Approach

Discussion, pair work and group work can help students to express their idea bravely and clearly. Part 5: Teaching aids The multi-media, a blackboard.

Part 6: Teaching procedures Step I Greetings Step II Lead-in Do a quiz game about Xiamen. Step III Scanning Task 1 Read the text quickly and fill in the blanks. Task 2 Read the text again and do the proofreading according it. Step IV Discussion

Discuss in pairs. Supposing you are John Martin, you want to post a massage about a brief introduction of Xiamen in your WeChat Moments. Step V Role-play Work in groups. In your group, one is a guide, and the others are tourists. You can ask him/her as many questions as you can. StepⅥ

Summary Help students to summarize what they have learnt in this period and check the points of each group. Step Ⅶ
