Goal of learning ability:

Develop students’ basic skill: listening, skimming, scanning and digesting

Teaching difficult points

Get students to figure out the essence of fighting against racial discrimination and inequality

Teaching method:

Task-based approach, individual and group work

Teaching procedures: Step one: Lead- in and Warming-up 1.

Ask students to look at the poster for Green Book and introduce the topic. 2.

Ask students to enjoy video from the film to arouse students’ interest int the topic

3.

Show them pictures of some famous people devoted to fighting for social justice for the blacks. 4.

Lead them to the reading passage by introducing what ordinary people did to help black people

Step two: While-reading 1.

Reading for the main idea

Ask students to read the whole passage aloud and put the relevant events into correct order.

1. Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat on the bus. 2. They went to work on foot or in taxis instead. 3. Blacks were finally able to sit where they liked on city buses. 4. The whites were angry because their businesses suffered. 5. The Supreme Court eventually agreed with the boycott. 6. The blacks were solid in their support of the boycott. 7. Rosa Parks was arrested. 8. The whites bombed the houses of the black leaders. 9. Martin Luther King, Jr called on the blacks to boycott the city buses and trolleybuses.

Reading for details

Ask students to read the passage again within groups the answer questions in pairs

1. What was the cause of the boycott? What was the date when this incident happened? 2. How long did the boycott last? What did the blacks do to show their determination? 3. What did the Whites do to end the boycott? And why? 4. When was the boycott over? How did the blacks win the battle?

Step Three: After-reading

Based on the two situations presented in the video, ask students to solve the problem according to

their own understanding

Situation One: in the dinner restaurant;

Situation Two: in the shop 2.

Help students to give a presentation of main cities of Canada 3.

Step Four: Summary

We are encouraged to become more aware of the problems and differences in other parts of the world.Only by understanding the historical and religious differences can we become more understanding of problems in the world and more tolerant about them.
