Background information Analysis of teaching material: The teaching material is about Suzy’s study report. All the students are very familiar with this topic, but they don’t like the topic “ study”

at all. This lesson mainly focus at showing students how to write a report and let them understand the importance of the relationship between abilities and responsibilities. Students can talk about their abilities from three parts: study, hobbies and qualities.

Analysis of students: Students in Grade 7 have certain basic English knowledge. They also know some certain listening skills. So it’s not difficult for them to understand the general idea of the listening materials and know how to write a report. II. ..Type of lesson and Pre-study assignments: ..........Integrated Skills

Preview the new words and collect some used things. III. .Teaching aims and learning objectives By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:

know some phrases and sentences they can use to talk about the abilities they have; 2.

get the information from listening materials to finish the report and know how to make a report; 3.

love to show their abilities and understand the relationship between abilities and responsibilities.

IV. Focus of the lesson and predicted area of difficulty 1. To make students be ale to use the new phrases and sentences they learn in this lesson to talk about their own abilities. 2. To help students understand the relationship between abilities and responsibilities and make students know that qualities and hobbies are also as important as study if they want to be an all-around student.

Enjoy a video. T: I prepared a short video for you. Let’s enjoy it together.

Question (1): Who plays the music in the video? (2): What do you think of the music? T: Do you know why can Chen Ziyu play the piano very well?

Chen Ziyu, when did you started to play the piano? T: What can you do? Can you...? When did you started to ...? 【Purpose】



Enjoy a video of their classmate to create a relaxing atmosphere.



The video helps to attract students to the topic easily and stimulate their interest and curiosity in the topic “abilities”. 

Students can know some words and phrases they can use to talk about their hobbies and when did they start to do it.

Step 2 Speak up

Listen to the dialogue between Daniel and Sandy and know their abilities.



Help students work in pairs to discuss their abilities and develop the sense of cooperation. Step 3 The study report 1.

Use a video to show Chen Ziyu’s problems in study and introduce the new words and phrases about study in this part. 

The video helps to stimulate students’ interest and curiosity in the topic “study”.

Suzy’s study.

T：Suzy had an exam last week. Listen and finish her report.

Part A1.

T: Listen and match each subject with the following information. T: Before listening, please read the sentences carefully and underline the key words of each sentence. 【Purpose】



Listen to the tape and have a basic understanding about Suzy’s study.



Develop the habit of reading the materials and underline the key words before listening. (2)Part A2. Suzy’s notes. T: After an exam, the students will have a parents’ meeting. Suzy’s teacher Mr Wu is preparing for the parents’ meeting and he makes some notes about Suzy. Now look at the notes and let’s help Mr

Wu complete the notes about Suzy’s study.

T: First, use the information we get in PartA1 to fill in the first part in this card. T: Now let’s listen to the tape and try to complete the rest notes. (Listen twice if necessary.)

T: Read the card again. We can divide it into mainly three parts.

Question: How many parts are there in this note card? What are they?

(Four parts: study; music; sports: others) T: We know from the first part that Suzy has different subjects. The second part and third part are about Suzy’s hobbies. The last part is about Suzy’s qualities.

Know more about Suzy’s abilities including her study, hobbies and qualities.



Help students gain the listening skill of using the information we’ve known to fill the blanks before listening. 

Help students understand the structure of this note card and we ca talk about the abilities of a person from three aspects: study; hobbies and qualities. (3).Part A3. Suzy’s report. T: Mr Wu want to use the notes to write a report about Suzy. Help him complete the report.

T: Read and check answers. Question (1): How many paragraphs are there in this article?

Step 5 Group work 1.

Chen Ziyu is a helpful student. He will visit a children's welfare house (儿童福利院) in Huai'an this weekend.

He needs a group to help him to do some volunteer work (志愿工作).
