《Nationalities in China》

Teaching aims: After learning the sentences patterns “Where are you from? I am from…” in this Unit, we will give students more knowledge about China. Knowledge aims:

1.What ’ your nationality? I am…nationality. 2.What nationality is he/she? He/She is of…nationality

Ability aims: 1.

The students can talk about the nationalities each other freely. 2.

The students to know the ethnic custom and culture of different nationalities. Emotional aims: 1. To tell the students our motherland is big, rich in resources. 2. To lead the students love China. 3. To encourage the students love and help others. 4.To wish our country to be prosperous and powerful. Teaching difficulties points: the different ethnic custom and culture. Teaching preparation: PPT , word card. Teaching process: Step1. Greetings. T: Are you ready, Are you ready, one two three four. S: I am ready, I am ready, one two three four. T＆S: Go go go go, go! T: Are you ready for the class?

S: Yes. T:OK, very good. let’s begin our class. The teacher show the title. Step2. Revision Talk about China. T: At the beginning of the class, I want you to talk about China. What’s China in your eyes? S1: China is our country. S2: I love China. S3:China is very big and beautiful. S4: China is our motherland. S5:I like China I don’t like Japan. S6:China is in Asia. S7:There are many provinces in China. …

T: Perfect! Everyone did a good job. China is our country, China is our motherland, We love China very much. Today we are going to learn the nationalities of China. (Show the PPT) Step3. Leading-in. Guessing game: The teacher performs the actions, then the students guess the nationality. Step 4. Presentation. Show the PPT, Talk about the ethnic custom and culture.

(1) Han nationality. (Show the pictures) T: Han nationality is the biggest group.（explain the biggest and group）

We are all of the Han nationality, right? S: Yes. (2)Zhuang nationality. (Show the pictures) T: They are good at singing folk songs. Do you know the folk song? S: Yes. T: Who can sing a folk song? S1:娃哈哈呀娃哈哈，每个人脸上都笑开颜……

T: Yes, It belongs to Uygur nationality. S2:北京的金山上光芒照四方……

T: It belongs to Tibetan nationality. S3:山歌好比春江水呀……

T: It belongs to Zhuang nationality (3) Tibetan nationality. (Show the pictures) T: They dress with long sleeves and robe.(explain the sleeves and robe) People like drinking buttered tea and wine. T: How to make buttered-tea? S: I don’t know. T:（show picture of the butter and milk）mix the butter and the milk, we can get the buttered-tea. S: I see. (4) Uygur nationality. (Show the pictures)

T: Please listen to the music and guess which nationality it is ? S: OK. After listening the music, who has the answer? S1: Han nationality. S2: Miao nationality. S3: Hui nationality. The teacher shows the correct answer: Uygur nationality. T: They are good at singing and dancing. They like singing and dancing under the grape vine. Can you sing and dance? Let’s try. The teacher and the students dance together with music. (5) Miao nationality. (Show the pictures) T: The women of this nationality like wearing silver, and their clothes are colorful .Look at the picture, the bullfight is very popular in the Miao nationality. Do you know bullfight? S: No. T: Okay, I want two of you to come to the front and perform “ bullfight”. Who wants to have a try?

S: I want to have a try. The teacher invites two students to come to the front.

(6) Mongolian nationality. (Show the picture) People of this minority like horse riding. T: Can you ride a horse? S: Yes. T: Can you do the actions? (The students stand up and do the actions together.) T: Great! I think Peter did well. Peter, ride your horse to find your best friend and clap hands with him or her, Ok? S: OK. T: Go! (after it ,teacher asks Peter ‘Are you happy?’) Peter: Yes, I’m very happy. (7) Dai nationality.( Show the picture of Yang Liping) T: Who is the beautiful woman? Is she your mother? S: No. (laughing) S1: She is Yang Liping. T: Right. She is a famous dancer of peacock.(with actions) Do you know which nationality she is? S1: Miao nationality S2: Tu nationality S3: Dai nationality

T: Bingo! Dai nationality. Show another picture about the water-sprinkling. T: What are they doing? Are they fighting? (with actions) S: No. T: Are they quarrelling? (with actions) S: No. T: They are giving the best wishes in a special way. They are celebrating their own festival ---the water-sprinkling. They splash water to their mother, father, teacher, friends and the people they loved. Do you have good friends? S: Yes, I have. T: Who wants to come here and splash water to your friends? S: I want to try. The teacher invites some students to come to the front and do the actions. Everyone enjoys themselves. (8) Bai nationality, Korean nationality, Hui nationality, Man nationality, Yao nationality, Yi nationality, Tu nationality,

Dong nationality, Buyi nationality…

Step 5.Do some exercises. Match the characteristic and the nationalities. Step 6 . Discuss. Penetration of the thoughts of national unity. Penetration of love for the motherland emotions. T: I will draw a flower on the blackboard, what color do you like ?

S: Red. The teacher draws a flower just with one petal and write Han nationality in the petal. Then the teacher asks :Is the flower beautiful? Ss: No. T: I have no mother ,no father ,no sister ,no brother ,no teacher and no friends. So I’m lonely, I’m not happy .What should I do? The students discuss in pairs. Then the teacher draws another petal and writes Miao nationality .The teacher draws many petals and writes different nationalities. T: How many petals are there? S: Fifty-six petals T: Excellent. You are so clever! Because there are fifty-six nationalities in China. . Step7. Summary. Sing a song : The more we get together(play the rhythm 3/4.) Step 8.Wishing our country to be prosperous and powerful. T: OK,very good. let’s wish our country to be prosperous and powerful. It’s time to say goodbye to everyone. S:Goodbye,everyone.
