本模块介绍了一些厦门相关的内容，包括它的位置，气候，城市概况等，通过对本模块的学习,学生可以更多地了解厦门，还可以在学习一些相关词汇，句型的基础上掌握如何介绍或描述一个地方或城市.同时，学生还可以通过对本模块Listening部分的学习，对社区居委会有所了解，对社会有所认识，为做社会调查打下基础。而且，学生还可以在Speaking部分学会如何说明方位和方向，既锻炼了说的能力，又为写作能力的提高打下基础。

一．模块教学目标：

1. Learn some useful words and expressions. 2. Learn how to describe different types of houses and one’s living place. 3. Know more about Xia’men. 4. Learn how to show directions and positions. 5. Train Ss’ listening, speaking and reading ability.

Teaching methods: Listening, speaking, writing, skimming and scanning. Teaching aids A tape-recorder, some slides. Teaching procedures: Step1: Words and phrases. Show the words and phrases on the slide. Teach Ss to read and then complete the sentences below the words with suitable words. Aim: Make Ss learn and master some useful words and phrases. Step2: Description Show some pictures of different types of houses. Make Ss learn how to describe them.

Show some pictures of different houses on the slide and give the following question: Which type of house would you like to live in? 2. Let Ss express their ideas about the houses with the following sentence pattern. I’d like to live in …because … (the climate/ the scenery/ the air/traffic/environment……

Aim: Train Ss’ speaking ability.

Step4: Reading. 1. Let Ss read the two short passages by themselves and understand them. Make them learn how to introduce their living places and houses. 2. Show a form on the slide and let Ss complete it by writing down some sentences to introduce their living places and houses. 3. Read their short paragraphs aloud in the class. Aim: Train Ss’ speaking ability by introducing their living places and houses. Step5: Words in the text. 1. Show some words of the text on the slide.

Teach Ss to read and complete the sentences below the words with suitable words. Aim: Help Ss learn and master some new words of the text Step6: Text reading. 1. Fast reading. Read the text quickly following the tape to get a general idea. 2. Read again. Read the text again and finish Ex3 ( Guess the meanings of some words according to the text.) on P33. Check the answers in the class and make some explanations. 3. Carefully reading. Read the text carefully and do Ex1 ( Choose the correct answers according to the text)and Ex2( True or False exercise) on P33. Check the answers in the class and make some explanations. Aims: 1.Train Ss’ reading skills. 2. To make Ss understand the text. Step6: Homework. 1. Review words and phrases learned in the class. 2. Read the text again and try to find out some difficult language points.
