Analysis of the teaching material

The content of this lesson is New Senior English for China Book8 Unit5, learning about language, which is to help the students get familiar with the meaning and usage of the words & expressions so as to get prepared for further study in this unit.

Analysis of the students The students are tired of cramming method of teaching, so it’s important to arouse their interest and get them involved.

Teaching objectives 1. Language and skills 

The students will be able to pronounce the words&expressions correctly. 

The students will fully understand the meaning of the words&expressions.

The students will be able to command the collocations.



The students will be able to use the words&expressions.



The students will practice both receptive skills and productive skills.

Teaching Procedures

Step1: Warming-up By watching a short video introducing the movie called Secret Superstar, the students’

interest will be aroused. At the same time, they will get familiar with the characters and plots, thus, being prepared for the following learning tasks.

Step2: Presentation & Practice

1. The students will learn the meaning of words&expressions through pictures and the plots. 2. The students will be divided into seven groups and race to answer the questions and win points for the group.

3. The students are supposed to fill in blanks and make sentences according to the examples.



The students will reinforce what they’ve learned by playing a guessing game (你划我猜).

2. A word will be shown on the screen.

The group leader from each group will come to the front to be the mind reader.

Any student in the class can be invited to act out the given word.

The mind reader who speaks out the word will get one point for the group. 

In this part, the students are required to make up a story using at least five words&expressions learned in this class. They will first work in group to prepare. Then, the group leader should share the story on behalf of each group in the front.

Step5: Summary Dream lights the way

and give you new courage to face life cheerfully.

Don't part with your dreams. When they are gone you may still exist, but you have ceased to live. To accomplish great things, in addition to dream, action is a must.

Step6: Homework 1. Review the words and phrases.

2. The students are to finish the related exercises.
