Analysis of the teaching materials The project in this unit is designed to help students practice and use English by completing a project. Students are first asked to read an article about “ How does a sport enter the Olympics?” and then they will appreciate a story entitled “Winning isn’t everything.” The purpose of this section is to help students use what they have learnt to make a speech about sport by working together. Analysis of the students: The Senior One students from MaLing High School are from a relatively advanced class. I assume that they have abundant knowledge and a rich vocabulary and can therefore cooperate with the teacher well in class. In this period of high school, they are also able to learn to think critically. Meanwhile, they are in a relatively high level of self-development and are supposed to learn about something about sports and the spirit of sports. Teaching goals: After learning this part, students are expected

1. to learn an article about how a sport enter the Olympics

2. to appreciate a story of “winning isn’t everything”

3. to make a speech about “Entering Sports into the College Entrance Examination”

Important and difficult points:

How to equip the students with some knowledge of sports and the spirit of sports

How to guide them to apply the knowledge learnt in class to their making a speech.
