B In July, 2001, Zhang Jian, a 37-year-old swimmer landed in Calais, France after swimming for twelve hours. He became the first Chinese ever to cross the English Channel. The 33.8-kilometre channel has attracted many swimmers because it is one of the most difficult channels to cross. Zhang Jian set off at 1: 30 p.m. on July 29, 2001. After putting some oil on his skin to help keep warm, he stepped into the sea from Shakespeare Beach, Dover. Most of the time, Zhang swam freestyle to save energy. But he had to change his style along the way because the ocean currents changed every six hours and the water was so cold. During the crossing he ate some food and had some drinks. About three hours before he landed in Calais, a British guide jumped into the sea and swam together with him. The next day, Zhang walked onto the French beach at last. 46. How old is Zhang Jian now?

This passage mainly tells us _______. A. when Zhang Jian crossed the English Channel

B. how Zhang Jian crossed the English Channel C. where Zhang Jian landed C Milk was one of the main human foods long before history was written. It will probably remain one as long as there are animals that give milk. The old word “milk” came from Sanskrit (梵文), one of the oldest languages known to man. A very old picture of milking animals has been found. It was drawn five thousand years ago. People got their milk from their own animals. But in modem times new inventions made the milk industry (工业) a big business. In 1851 Gall Borden found a way to take some of the water from milk. This made it keep longer. Four years later, Louis Pasteur introduced a way to kill the bacteria (细菌) in milk. So in the same year a special milk bottle was made. This was followed by the invention of machines that could fill bottles with milk. These discoveries meant that milk could be stored longer. Some people believe that milk drinking will become less popular than it has been. But remember how long milk has been an important food and think of the many ways in which it is useful. It seems safe to say that milk industry will always be important. 51. People began to get milk from animals _______. A. 5,000 years ago B. before history was written C. in the year 1851 52. Sanskrit is a language _______. A. known to people in the world B. that is not known to man C. that has a long history 53. People killed the bacteria in milk to make it _______.
