I. Teaching aims and learning objectives By the end of the lesson, students should be able to: 1. learn about some unusual things; 2. talk about amazing things with new sentence patterns. II. Teaching contents 1. New words and phrases: same, birth, earth, back, fat, fact, amazing, times, bone, the same size, from birth, in the back of, stop doing sth.; 2. New structures: Fish sleep with their eyes open.

Our nose and ears never stop growing.

The sun is about 1,300,000 times larger than the Earth.

III. Focus of the lesson and predicted area of difficulty 1. The usage of “with” as adverbial; 2. The usage of “times” in comparison; 3. The difference between “stop doing” and “stop to do”; 4. How to describe something amazing.

IV. Teaching procedures Welcome to the unit

Step 1 Lead-in T: First, let’s watch a picture and answer: What’s amazing in the picture? 【设计意图：通过图片激发学生兴趣，引出本文的主题——Amazing things。】

Step 2Lead-in

T:the world is full of amazing things. Do you know anything amazing?

Look at the pictures.

Look at the fish. How is it? Is it amazing?

Where is the girl standing? What do you think of the picture?

What is the car like? Is it funny?

What does the mountain look like? What do you think of it?

How much food do we eat during our lives? Can you guess? That’s the weight of about six elephants. We eat so much food in our lives. How cool! 【设计意图：通过图片介绍一些令人惊叹的事或物，激发学生的兴趣，引出描述感叹事物时

可以运用的形容词，并为进入书本内容做铺垫。】

Step 2 Presentation

1. Fun facts.

T: Let’s talk about elephants.

Are there any bones in the back of elephants’ feet? There is something amazing about fish. We sleep with our eyes closed, what about fish? There is also something amazing about people’s eyes. Look at the baby’s and the old lady’s eyes. Are they the same size? Do our eyes grow as we grow up? What about the Earth and the Sun? Are they the same size? Which one is bigger, the Earth or the Sun? 2. Match the pictures with the sentences. 3. Read and remember the sentences 4. Retell 4. Language points. 1）. same

Which pictures are they talking about? Let’s listen to their dialogue. Read the dialogue and answer:

1.How many times is the Sun larger than the Earth?

Step 3 Production

1. Talk in pairs. T: Talk about the pictures in Part A in pairs. You can use Kitty and Amy’s dialogue as a model. Can you tell me other adjectives to describe amazing things? 2. Make up your own amazing story. (1) Work in groups of two; 【设计意图：两人对话，由易到难，在巩固课本所学的前提下，发挥学生想象力。】

Step 4Presentation 1.Today two animal friends are coming to our class.

Let’s enjoy the dialogue and answer the two questions.

2）What does Hobo think the thing is? 3. Retell the dialogue

T: Now let’s review the story and fill in the blanks to complete the passage. 4. Act it out. T: Now work in pairs and try to act the dialogue out. You can use your own words if possible. 【设计意图：通过Eddie和Hobo的对话，让学生明白本堂课的主要内容是关于amazing things。表演对话有助于学生练习口语并活跃课堂氛围。】

The comic is short and easy.But it is important to grasp and use the phrases.Students are interested in amazing things,they are very happy to have the lesson.They can master the language points very well. They can share amazing things with others.But few of them can not master well,after class ,I will help them.I will encourage them to study hard.
