Ss: I like Monkeys’ Forest because monkeys jump around and make me laugh.
T: Perfect! But do you still remember the way to so many places? Let’s have a review of Reading. (Try to stimulate students to express the way to different places.) 2. Review Reading
(Ask students to fill in blanks of Reading.) T: I will give you one minute to think about and please show me your answer quickly and correctly.

Then turn ___ , you can see giraffes . ________ the bridge, to the _________of them are the elephants.
(Ask them to answer one by one)
T: Read together. Well done. The students had a nice trip at the Sunshine Zoo .Now they are going on a treasure hunt. Here, hunt means they want to look for the treasure and they need some help on their way to treasure, are you ready to help them find it? Ss: Yes. We are ready to help!
T: If you want to help them, please learn some new words and phrases at first.
Step 2 Pre-listening
1. Learn new words by pictures T: Look at the picture. Some Chinese students are talking with a British student in English in a room. We call it…? Ss: An English corner. T: Great! Look! There are so many cars on the road. We can call them… traffic. Can you count the number of so many cars?
Ss: No. T: So traffic is an uncountable noun. We can also say: There is much traffic on the road. (Lead students to describe more pictures and pay attention to their usage, eg. We should put an before English corner; traffic is an uncountable noun) Read the words and sentences together and correct their pronunciation if possible.
eg. treasure ˈtreʒə(r)
2. Learn some useful instructions
T: What is the girl doing now? She is walking …
Ss: She is walking across the road. T: That’s it! walk across means you walk from one side of the road to the other side. T: Can you describe other pictures in English? Talk with your partner. Ss: Teacher, I don’t know the difference between walk along and walk past, would you please help me? T: Yes, please look at me.
(Use body language and actions to identify the difference.) T: Everybody, look at me. Now I am walking past Lucy. And now I am walking along the wall in our room. Who can tell me the difference? Ss: walk past means 走过in Chinese. It is very short. walk along means沿着走in Chinese. It is not short. T: Really clever girl.
(Ask one student to walk past somebody and then walk along the wall in our class to make sure they grasp the meaning of the two phrases)
Step 3 While-listening 1. Look and describe (A1) T: Boys and girls, turn to page 49, work in pairs. Please describe what the man is doing in the picture. One describes a and the other describes b, check your partner’s answers. Ss: Teacher, can we say turn left at the second crossing in another way? T: Very good question. We can also say: take the second turning on the left. T: Now you’ve known what the man is doing in each picture. Listen carefully and tick the correct boxes.
2. Listen again if more than half of them haven’t finished T: Who hasn’t finished? Put up your hands.
3. If he or she has some mistakes, listen again and correct answers
T: This boy, please. Show us your answers. You speak very loudly! Boys and girls, please read after the tape sentence by sentence.
4. Listen and write the correct order (A2) T: If you want to help others find the way to the treasure, you need to have a map at first. Look at the map on the screen, what can you see on it? Ss: We can see some wooden houses, paths, trees, bridges and a long river.
T: Nice. Please listen to the instructions and put them into correct order from one to six. If you get the correct instructions, you will be nearer the treasure.
T: Would like to have a try, Mike? Show us your answers. You are so active. Boys and girls, please read the instructions together. Read it aloud. Show me your smile!
5. Draw the given route
T: Please turn to page 50. Now you are here on the map. Please draw the route to the treasure by listening to the instructions again. Take out your pen!
T: Now I need a volunteer to show your route, who wants to help me? (Ask a student to come to the screen and draw his or her route on it, and others can check the answers at the same time.) T: Wonderful, all of you can find the treasure. It is here. You are great helpers.
6. Challenge time: Draw new routes to the treasure T: As the old saying goes, there is more than one way to skin a cat. That is to say, there is more than one way to find the answer to the question. Can you draw new routes to the treasure? Work in pairs and show your new routes to your partner in English. (Walk around the classroom to check the students’ new routes, give them help if they have problems when expressing ways.) T: Who wants to share your new route or routes to us? It will be nice of you to share new ideas. (Ask one student to read his or her routes, at the same time, ask his or her partner to come to the screen. He or she should listen and draw the route correctly. Then check the answers. )
T: Everyone. Attention. You have to express your route in a correct way so that your partner will be able to find the treasure. Besides, you should be a good listener. Otherwise, you are not a good helper. I hope all of you will be better next time.
Step 4 Speak up: How do I get there? (B) 1. Listen and answer T: Let’s move on to speak up. Millie is asking Daniel the way to Sunny Garden. First listen and then answer the three questions. Who will be the nightingale that read for us? Yeah, Leila, you can do it.
Ss: Who and when will they get to Sunny Garden? Why are they going to Sunny Garden? How can they get there?
T: Listen and underline the answers on your books.
T: Now, let’s check the answers. Leo, you are so quiet, have a try.
Beautiful! I like your pronunciation.
T: Please repeat after the tape sentence by sentence.
(Observe the whole class at the same time. Some excellent students are able to repeat without
looking at the books. And give them smile to encourage their behaviors. )
2. Challenge time: Design a map of the route from home to Sunny Garden T: Now, please close your books and fill in the blanks. I will give you one minute to prepare. Walk there from your building. Go out and turn_______. Walk straight on, and you will see the
________. __________ the road. Walk past the _______and turn_______ at the first ________. Then you will see Sunny Garden at the________ of the street.
T: It’s very easy for you. Please read the passage together. Now you’ve known the information about the way to Sunny Garden. Can you draw the places and route on the paper? Here you go. (1. Ask two students to come to the blackboard and design their maps. They can have their special ideas, but they should draw the right route. 2. Make a comparison between the two maps and give comments) T: Well, I like your map. It is clean and we can find the garden quickly. Ben, I think your map is beautiful and you draw the supermarket very well. Oh, you also add the four directions: N S W E, you are such a careful boy.
Step5 Post-listening: 1.Travel around SIP ( an optional activity ) T: Now all of you have a map of SIP on your hand. Suppose you are at the Huxi Police Station. Some exchange students from the UK want to go to Xing Wan School, can you show them the right way in English? Talk with your partner and write down your route on the paper. (Ask one student to read his or her route and the other to draw the route in front of the class to let others check whether they’ve got the right route.) T: SIP is a good place for study、shopping、playing etc. Which place would you like to go when you are free?
Ss: I want to go to the Central Park to enjoy flowers .
I want to go to the Gate of the Orient to do some shopping in the evening.
……
T: Work in a group of two. You two should choose where you are at first. Then, ask the other student the way to your favorite place. One ask and the other answer, then change your roles.
A: Excuse me, can you tell me how to get to…?
can you tell me the way to...?
how can I get to…?
B: Don’t worry. I know the way.
Turn… at the …crossing.
Walk along… and you’ll see …
Just cross the road. Then you will see the…on your ….
A: It is nice of you to do so. Thanks a lot. B: You are welcome. (Invite students to come in front of the class and play the roles. Draw their routes on the screen. ) T: You’ve done a good job. I hope you can remember your way when you visit it next time. Besides, it is important for us to be polite when asking and answering ways even if you two are strangers. Being polite is a Chinese traditional courtesy.
2. Draw the route from my home to school T: I will ask two students to have a challenge. You two should listen to my instructions and draw the way from my home to school. You should draw quickly and correctly. Are their any volunteers?
Ss: Let me and my partner have a try.
(Invite students to come in front of the class. Other students can listen and decide whether they are right or wrong. ) Step6: Check &Summary T: Let’s do some exercises to check your knowledge about this lesson. 1.
