Welcome to the unit

I. Teaching objectives

By the end of this lesson, the students are supposed to be able to:

 Know names of different outdoor activities.

Step 1 Lead-in

It’s autumn now and the weather is not too cold or too hot. It is good time for outdoor activities. What outdoor activities would you like to try?

Step 2 A guessing game

Present several pictures with only parts of them seen by students or description of outdoor activities and have students guess what activities they are.

Step 3 Presentation

1. Finish Part A, writing correct letters in the boxes.

2. Explain the structure “go + v- ing”, and ask students to make a list of outdoor activities they know.

e.g. go fishing, go walking, go shopping, go skating, go diving, go camping,

go hiking, go cycling, go running, go jogging, go skiing, go swimming

Make a dialogue with one student and then students work in pairs and make similar ones.

Step 4 Practice

1. Daniel and Amy are talking about outdoor activities. Listen to the conversation in Part B and find out what outdoor activities they like.

2. Read the dialogue by themselves and find out why they like these activities.
