The Greatest Invention

Four students talk about great inventions. Their teacher asked them to decide on the greatest invention.

Sara: I think the mobile phone is a great invention. 25 years ago no one had a mobile phone. Now everyone has a mobile phone. You can talk to people all over the world. You can use it to take photos, listen to music and use the Internet.

Tom: I don’t agree. The Internet is the greatest invention. Can you imagine a world without the Internet or e-mail? We use it all the time to find information and keep in touch with people.

Susan: Some inventions save millions of lives and help find cures for diseases. They are the most important inventions. Penicillin saved millions of lives and now doctors and scientists are working on Gene Therapy. That’s more important than a phone or e-mail.

Carol: The greatest invention is the rocket. It took us to the moon and into space. It changed the world.

Sara: OK. Now

we have to choose one great invention. This won’t be easy!
