M4 U1 Advertisement Grammar and usage: Direct speech & Reported speech (2) Teaching aims:

1. To help students learn how to use reported speech to report statements, questions and imperative sentences.

2. To help students report the interview. 3. To develop students’ interest in grammar by using interesting class activities in seewo. 4. To develop students’ right attitude to the sports meeting.

Teaching key points and difficult points：

1. To enable students to use reported speech to report statements, questions and imperative sentences.

2. To help students to report the interview. Teaching procedures: Step 1 Lead-in and Revision 1. Show students a swimming competition of Ning Zetao. And then talk about the sports meeting in our school last year, and ask them to fill in the blanks of reported speech accordingly. (1) The commentator said, “Ning broke the record.”

Step 2 Grammar learning 1. Questions: 1) Before the sports meeting, Lei and Li talked about something about it. Ask students

to watch the video and listen to what they talked about and fill in the blanks in the dialogue. Li: ______ ______ ________ _____ sports meeting ______ coming? Lei: Yes. 2. Imperative sentences In the dialogue, Lei said they would ask the teacher what they should pay attention to during the sports meeting. In this part, the teacher will give advice to the first one in every group. The first one should tell the second one in a whisper, and then the second one should tell the third one…

Then the last one needs to tell the class the teacher’s advice with the structure:

The teacher’s advice:

1) Follow the discipline rules. 2) Protect yourselves from sunstroke. 3) Eat some chocolate for energy before competition. 4) Do warm-up exercise before competition. 5) Don’t have a cold drink after competition.

6) Do some relaxing activities after competition. 7) Have a positive attitude to the results. 8) Don’t ignore your study.

After the game, ask students to conclude how to change imperative sentence into reported speech.

Step 3 Consolidation 1. Have a different sports meeting Show students several pictures of athletes and their famous sayings, then decide whether the reported speech is true or false. If it is false, ask students to correct it. Sayings from the sports world: 1) Fu Yuanhui said, "I have used my prehistoric powers." 2) Liu Guoliang said to Zhang Jike, "Wake up, this is the Olympic Games." 3) Vince Lombardi said, "If winning isn't everything, why do they keep score?" 4) Kobe asked, "Have you ever seen the scene of Los Angeles at 4 am?" 2. Group work: interview As a member at TV station, you need to interview the athletes after the competition. Requirements:

(1) Work in a group of 4-5. One in your group is the athlete, one works as the reporter, one is the host who should write down the interview and be prepared to report the interview, and others should prepare the tools you may need. (2) After your work, you should be prepared to show your interview just like in 新闻联播.
