A lively city is the edition of WY and the second period of the Module 4—reading part in “A Social Survey--my neighborhood”. This article is a conversational article and a form of dialogue shows the geographical location, climate and conditions of Xiamen city, such as tourist attractions and buildings. That part of the content close to student's life and the subject of the discussion is the lively city so that this can further promote students’ understanding of certain cities, but also by talking about a palce to enhance students' ability to express.

Learning situation analysis Before this, students are learning more than a month, has been basically adapt to the pace of high school English learning, but also do not have skimming, accuracy, and skip reading skills, and most of the students' weak foundation in English, reading ability is poor, translation and understanding ability also needs to improve. However, students are serious in their attitude, have high enthusiasm and active thinking, and can carry out topic discussion and role play better. Therefore, multimedia teaching is adopted in this class to stimulate students' interest in learning.

Let students understand the general idea of the article and complete the tasks by skimming and scanning. Retell the content of the article with what we have learned. 2.

Use audio and pictures to create classroom atmosphere and motivate students' motivation: through role-playing train students' listening and reading abilities, and help students to deepen their impressions of the articles. 3.

Emotional aims This lesson is about the knowledge of Xiamen. In this teaching, we can develop the students’ feelings of loving their hometown and country.

Show the students a viedo to arouse students’s interest, and then show some information about Xiamen.

1.Which city it is in the viedo?

Ask some volunteers to show their answers.

Suggested answers:

S1. It’s a coastal city, which is beautiful and clean

S2. It enjoys the title of the National Garden City. Use a map to tell the students the general location of Xiamen city and help the students guess the city finally. Given information: This lively city is situated on the southeast coast of Fujian Province.

It is opposite to Taiwan and is by the side of Zhangzhou. It is a seaside city. It is famous for Gulangyu Island.

Step3 Presentation 1.

Fast Reading T: Today we are going to learn a dialogue between Xiao Li and John Martin. Firstly let’s listen to the dialogue between Xiao Li and John Martin.You guys should try to understand what they are going to talk about and then finish the following exercises. (1)

Look at the dialogue on Page 32.Please practise the dialogue in pairs.(After a while, Get the students to look at these statements. Say

Role Play

Help the students how to describe a place and group work to finish the following activity. Rules: (1)

Suppose you are a local person in Liu Zhi, and your foreign friend Tom come to Liu Zhi. You are his/her guide, introducing your hometown. (2)

Each group plays a place of Liu Zhi. For example, group 1 is Luo Bie, group 2 is Yuan Jiao and group 3 is Lang Dai. When the local person and her/his

foreign friend come to your place, your group member introduces the specialty of your place. However, group 4 needs to summarize the specialty of what other groups talked.

Step 5 Summary Ask the students if you want to describe a place, what you will describe.

The students are supposed to master some skills of reading so that they can read and comprehend some reading in many exams, and develop abilities through the activities in the class. But maybe it’s difficult for those mid-low level students to master this, so the teacher should pay more attention to this sort of students. 2. The real class teaching is hard to predict what is going on exactly, so the teaching plan is just a guide to execute the teaching procedure. The teacher should make a change in the teaching consciously according to the reality, making the whole teaching continuing normally.
