Attention!!!(If you are really nervous while giving a speech, read it, or you may become nervous after reading so

many suggestions) 1. Avoid the deadly monotone. Underscore points of emphasis. 2. Speak loudly. The people in the back rows want to hear you, too. Have you ever heard anyone complain that the speaker is too loud? 3. Don’t ignore the audience. Look at them as often as possible.

4. Use larger letters for your manuscript and double or triple space to help avoid losing your place. 5. Speak slowly. Avoid fast mechanical reading by thinking what you’re about to say. Thinking ahead also eliminates the undesirable monotonous voice. 6. Avoid words and phrases that look good on paper but stick in your throat. 7. One final bit of advice: Smile occasionally. No matter how serious the speech is, your audience will appreciate the humanizing effect of a smile. 8. Some samples are provided that show you how to open, to develop and to close a presentation as follows (you arrange it for yourselves):

Here is the Main Topic:

Work in groups of four and prepare a speech entitled ‘Entering Wushu into the Olympics’

Presentation: Give the speech to the class. Be confident and answer your audience’s questions.

(you may take some notes here if necessary)
